About US:
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) was established by the Uganda
Revenue Authority Statute of 1991 and set up in September of the same year as a
central body for assessment and collection of specified revenue, to administer
and enforce the laws relating to such revenue and to provide for related
matters. This statute incorporated all the laws that were in force then
regarding tax collection. The new organization (URA) amalgamated the three tax
administration departments that were responsible for all the taxes collected by
the Central Government of Uganda.
Job Summary: The Officer
Systems Administrator will provide operational and technical support to the
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) ICT users and control security of ICT systems to
facilitate business continuity.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Offer support to ICT users in the organization to enhance availability
of IT services:
  • Troubleshoot software and hardware
    failures
  • Sensitize and guide users on new
    applications and ICT policy
  • Manage user accounts, create and reset
    accounts and passwords for users
  • Quickly respond to users requests and
    liaise with second level support to resolve escalated issues
  • Support direct trader inputs by installing
    virtual private Network Software and any other relevant applications.
  • Compile weekly reports on availability of
    IT service in the different stations and submit to the supervisor
Manage computer hardware and software maintenance in the organization
to facilitate business continuity:
  • Carry out installation and configuration
    of computer hardware and software
  • Upgrade of software and hardware
    components
  • Supervise service providers during
    preventive maintenance and installations
  • Identify user needs for IT equipment and
    allocate respectively
  • Keep track of and account for all IT
    assets in custody for the assigned stations
  • Coordinate the movement and repair of all
    IT assets in the organization
Control Security of ICT hardware and systems to enhance safety of IT
assets:
  • Ensure control physical access to the
    server rooms in the respective stations
  • Reset passwords for users and manage
    access to applications
  • Maintain the environment and cleanliness
    in the server rooms in order to minimize outages
  • Keenly monitor the functionality of
    hardware and systems in the server rooms



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicants for the Uganda Revenue
    Authority (URA) Officer Systems Administrator jobs should hold Bachelor’s degrees in Information
    Technology, Software Engineering, Computer science or another
    Information Technology degree obtained from recognised academic
    Institutions
  • Possession
    of these professional qualifications i.e. Microsoft certified system
    Administrator (MCSA), CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Certified
    Information Systems Security Professional, Comptia A+ and Oracle Certified Administrator is
    desirable
  • At least two years’ experience in providing IT support in a reputable
    organization with a reasonable number of users
  • Broad knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library
    (ITIL), National IT Act, Information communication policy and the Incident
    management policy
  • Excellent administration skills and good interpersonal skills with
    exceptional ability to pay attention to detail.
  • S/he
    must be self-driven, a good communicator, a logical thinker (strong
    troubleshooting skills) and assertive in nature.
  • S/he
    must be customer service orientated, responsible and accountable with proven
    ability to Work and perform well under pressure
  • Willingness
    to work before and after the gazetted time
  • A
    good time keeper
  • Patient
  • Age: Between 28-38 years
