Rwenzori, North-Eastern and Central regions of Uganda, Currently, Save the

reached over 143 million children through our work around 52m directly and 91
million indirectly around the world.
Job Summary: The Midwife
will actively contribute to the improvement in reproductive, maternal and
neonatal health through the provision of advice, care, support and services for
women and their families before, during and after childbirth.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Save the
    Children Midwife job placement should hold a Diploma in Midwifery from a
    recognized institution, Registered with relevant professional authority
    and a valid practicing license.
  • A minimum of three years of working
    experience in a medical facility or with the MOH.
  • Previous experience of NGO work in public
    health humanitarian settings is of added advantage. Prior exposure and
    experience in maternal, neonatal and child health care in emergencies.
  • Experience in promoting children’s rights
    and gender, including participation in programming, design, implementation
    and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health
    regulations and policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to
    influence and guide staff and partners in identifying programming
    opportunities and resolving program challenges.
  • Knowledge of public health, STDs/HIV,
    family planning and community midwifery
  • Strong interpersonal and counselling
    skills



  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Able to provide supervision and training
  • Flexible, positive and proactive approach
    to work
  • Able to work in a stressful and changing
    environment with limited resources
  • Past exposure and experience of working
    with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance,
    Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added
    advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic
    planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain
    conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a
    team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent
    documentation skills are a must.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and
    ability to work well in an international environment with people from
    diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management
    or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and
    communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning
    capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Willingness to travel and work in
    hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
