Job Summary: The Accountant
will manage all aspects of financial management and ensure that Advance Afrika’s
policies and procedures are effectively
implemented and complied with. The jobholder will also provide strategic
support to the Director of Finance and Administration and operational
support to program staff. As directed by Director of Finance and Administration, oversee all finance and accounting functions;
including budgeting, budget
variance and accounts analysis, cash flow management, asset management, payroll
management, financial and management reporting in accordance with general accepted accounting principles, financial policies
and procedures of Advance Afrika and its donors

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

- Ensure that timely periodic financial donor reports are prepared and
submitted to donors as per the respective donor guidelines - Manage the income flows of Advance Afrika
and document them so as to support effective project management - Make payments by ensuring that funds are
disbursed correctly in a timely
manner and that appropriate sufficient documentation and approvals are obtained - The jobholder will prepare and present
periodic donor budget performance reports and weekly activity cash advance ledger by
verification and posting of accountability - Prepare annual financial statements up for
external audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure that annual
audits/project audits are carried out in a timely manner as per the terms of engagement: steer the implementation of external audit
recommendations by
developing action plans
with time frames. - Ensure that a sound financial management
system is maintained aimed at improvement of financial management through
control procedures, processes and systems development, financial tool
development and implementation
of best practice in
accordance with international
accounting standards - Ensure that Advance Afrika is compliant
with statutory requirements and that financial risks are adequately
controlled by filing returns and remitting all deductions
to the relevant stator bodies within the stipulated timeframe
such PAYE, WHT, LST and NSSF. - Maintain an organizational asset register and
ensure that systems for asset acquisition, coding, storage and usage are functional. Ensure also that
organizational assets
are insured against lost, fire or theft - Ensure that procurement policies and
procedures are adhered to and are compatible with donor criteria. - Take overall responsibility for finance
training for none finance staff on Advance Afrika standards and donor
financial management requirements - Establish financial archives and ensure
that all financial records are classified and properly filed and easily
accessible for future references by concerned parties such as auditors.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s
degree in Finance, Accounting,
Commerce, Business Administration,
or equivalent. - Professional qualification i.e. MBA, CPA ,
ACCA, CIMA is an added advantage - At least three years’ experience in financial management
- Excellent computer skills with expertise in excel, word, PowerPoint and outlook
- Willingness to spend long hours on detailed work that demands accuracy
- Ability to write clear and concise reports; good spoken and written English
- Demonstrated ability to produce results within a tight deadlines in a very busy environment
- Ability to interact effectively with a geographically dispersed multicultural team composed of international and national personnel
- Analytical skills and decision making ability
- Capacity building of non – staff, partners and community members
- Fundraising skills.
- Hands on use of a variety of accounts software packages such as QuickBooks
- Skills and experience in budget
development and budgetary control including variance reports - Preparation of financial statements up to audited accounts
- Experience in the management of donor
funding up to final financial report with exposure to reporting requirements of such
donors European Union, Caritas Switzerland and Foundation of Open Society Institute - Working experience with partner organizations
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
