Project:
USAID funded BETTER OUTCOMES for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern
Uganda. The goal of the project is to improve the wellbeing of children and
youth orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and other adversities in Eastern and
Northern Uganda. BETTER OUTCOMES is implemented by a consortium of five
partners, namely: WEI/B as the prime partner; Mercy Corps, Uganda Women’s
Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), Youth, Alive and Friends of Christ Revival
(FOC-REV); each responsible for specific technical aspects of the project. The
project is being implemented in 20 districts of Eastern and Northern Uganda.
Specialist will take on a technical lead in youth programming and advising the
project on innovative youth development solutions that ensure children and
youth access core services that include health, education, Nutrition and
psychosocial wellbeing as well as prevent/reduce abuse, neglect and
exploitation.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor and supervise a team of 2 regional
youth coordinators in the implementation of the project design. - Provide high level technical support and leadership
on youth programming and advise the project on innovative development
youth solutions. - The incumbent will support youth
coordinators to designing & coordinate youth activities to ensure
access to appropriate health information and services, child protection
services, as well as economic strengthening opportunities. Lead in
training, mentoring, coaching of field teams to facilitate knowledge
acquisition and development of desired skills. - Develop youth technical guides on youth
health, livelihood, child protection and skills development. - Establish a systems approach in working
& collaborating with CSOS, government line ministries, private sector,
local government to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable youth. - The Youth Specialist will develop periodic
critical path analyses for youth programming. - The incumbent will compile periodic
project reports. - Support operational research in youth
programming approaches and participatory methods.
Experience:
- The applicant for the USAID OUTCOMES
Project Youth Specialist job placement should hold a Master’s degree in
Humanities. - A minimum of seven years of technical
experience in designing and implementing youth programs. - Good training and facilitation skills.
- Extensive knowledge of cost management
principles and practice especially in civil society sector/NGO sector. - Previous exposure and experience with
USAID projects for health (PEPFAR 3.0) & OVC programming. - Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in
Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills. - Highly creative, analytical, with good
problem solving skills. - Can demonstrate conflict management skills
and ability to manage ambiguity. - High emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet
targets and deadlines. - Ability to work in a busy office
environment that often demands high levels of concentration. - Ability to manage high volume workload.
- Previous experience in facilitating the
Youth Alive EFL Curriculum is an added advantage.
