The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline
agency against world hunger. It is the largest and longest serving humanitarian
agency in Uganda. . Currently WFP focuses on three priority areas: Saving lives
in Emergencies; Building Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving
Nutrition & Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to
Access Markets. WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary: The Programme
Associate will provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to
policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Support the Cooperating Partner Committee
    (CPC) at the Country Office level in all aspects of review and approval of
    project proposals submitted by cooperating partners to WFP;
  • Serve as the secretary of the CPC
    meetings: prepare agenda, call meetings as and when needed and ensure
    quorum;
  • Prepare field level agreements for
    signature following CPC approval;
  • Guide the technical units as well as area
    and field offices in all aspects of project review and implementation;
  • Review proposals to ensure that the given
    allocations (food, cash) are not exceeded;
  • Organise field missions and trainings to
    the Uganda area and field offices to train all staff involved in project
    review and implementation;
  • Work closely with cooperating partners to
    strengthen partnerships and improve the quality of proposals and of
    implementation of the agreements;
  • Keenly review and reconcile a variety of
    financial and operational reports;
  • Analyse and process requests for a variety
    of data;
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports,
    statistical information and tables;
  • Support area and field offices, including
    via field missions, as necessary;
  • Maintain accurate records and files within
    the field of work;
  • Draft correspondence related to the field
    of work; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations
    UN World Food Programme (WFP) Programme Associate job opportunity should
    hold a University degree in Nutrition, Agriculture, Education, Rural
    Development, Development Studies, Food Science and Social Sciences or
    related field.
  • Previous experience working in technical
    teams (i.e. nutrition, VAM, etc.) is desired
  • Previous exposure and experience in the
    implementation of programmes.
  • The applicant should have observed or
    assisted with policy discussions.
  • Language: Fluency in both oral
    and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station
    and in the duty station’s language, if different.

    affect food assistance problems and programmes throughout the lifecycle to
    inform quality programme design or re-design.
  • Transfer Modalities (Food, Cash,

    Demonstrates ability to implement, under guidance, food
    assistance programmes deploying the full range of transfer modalities with
    an understanding of basic principles guiding modality selection and
    implementation.
  • Broad Knowledge of Specialized Areas:
    Understands basic technical concepts and data and their relevance to food
    assistance programmes.
  • Emergency Programming: Displays
    capacity to provide inputs into the development, implementation and
    realignment of high quality emergency programmes.
  • Strategic Policy Engagement w/Government: Understands and applies basic
    principles of engagement with government counterparts at the national or
    local level.
