About US:
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) is a statutory body established
under Section 9 of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act
2013, and in line with the National Oil and Gas Policy for Uganda which was
approved in 2008. The PAU’s mandate is to monitor and regulate the exploration,
development and production, together with the refining, gas conversion,
transportation and storage of petroleum in Uganda. This includes ensuring that
petroleum operations in Uganda are carried out in accordance with the relevant
laws, regulations, guidelines, statutes and in line with international best
practice for the petroleum industry.
Job Summary: The Senior
Subsurface Geoscientist will manage the monitoring and regulation of reservoir
geoscience aspects of field development and production and cessation of
petroleum activities. The Senior Subsurface Geoscientist will lead and
supervise all geoscientists and technicians in the Subsurface Geoscience
Section
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Responsible for all activities within the
    Subsurface Geoscience Section.
  • Tasked with monitoring and regulation of
    reservoir development and production by licensed oil companies
  • In charge of processing and interpretation
    of geoscience data in relation to fields under development and/or
    production to aid in regulatory decision making
  • Responsible for the development and
    continuous updating of inhouse geological reservoir models for fields
    under development and/or production
  • Lead the review and advise on the approval
    of petroleum production profiles and production forecasts as may be
    submitted by licensees and advise on optimal recovery of petroleum
  • In charge of the evaluation of reservoir
    geoscience aspects of Field Development Plans and Petroleum Reservoir
    Reports
  • Ensure that reservoir development and
    production is undertaken in accordance with approved Field Development
    Plans, Petroleum Reservoir Reports and Reservoir Management Plans
  • Actively contribute to continuous economic
    evaluation of petroleum fields under development and production
  • Guide the Authority on the required
    software tools for the Subsurface Geoscience Section and ensure its proper
    maintenance
  • Coordinate the preparation, documentation,
    review and submission of periodic progress reports to relevant internal
    and external stakeholders
  • The incumbent will plan and budget for
    resource requirements in the business Unit and monitor the usage to ensure
    efficiency
  • Develop and monitor a Business Unit Work
    plan and develop performance agreements with all the staff under
    supervision
  • Keenly monitor staff performance and
    provide guidance and periodic feedback for performance improvement
  • The jobholder will assess the training and
    development needs of staff under the Subsurface Geoscience Section and
    recommend appropriate interventions
  • The incumbent will also provide coaching
    and mentoring support to staff under the Subsurface Geoscience Section.
  • Initiate and implement activities/programs
    intended to create and harness teamwork in the business Unit
  • Implement any other staff related programs
    as introduced and approved in the organization
  • Create and maintain a working atmosphere
    that fosters creativity and innovation in the team
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    Supervisor



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  
  • The ideal candidate for the Petroleum
    Authority of Uganda (PAU) Senior Subsurface Geoscientist job opportunity
    must possess a Master’s degree in petroleum geosciences from an
    internationally recognized institution.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree (Hons)
    in engineering or physical sciences from an internationally recognized
    institution
  • At least five years’ relevant working
    experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Previous exposure and experience in the
    use of reservoir modelling and other specialised petroleum industry
    software.
  • Previous experience with working in a
    multi-disciplinary team.
  • Previous exposure and experience in
    reservoir modelling and resource estimation is desired
  • Membership to relevant professional
    organizations
  • Innovative and with a proven high level of
    integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and in a
    team.
  • Good track record of outstanding
    performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication
    skills.
  • Possess good administrative and
    negotiation skills.
  • Track record of training and mentoring
    others.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant industry computer
    packages and Software
