About USAID BETTER OUTCOMES
Project:
World Education Inc. /Bantwana (WEI/B) is implementing the five- year
USAID funded BETTER OUTCOMES for Children and Youth in Eastern and Northern
Uganda. The goal of the project is to improve the wellbeing of children and
youth orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and other adversities in Eastern and
Northern Uganda. BETTER OUTCOMES is implemented by a consortium of five
partners, namely: WEI/B as the prime partner; Mercy Corps, Uganda Women’s
Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), Youth, Alive and Friends of Christ Revival
(FOC-REV); each responsible for specific technical aspects of the project. The
project is being implemented in 20 districts of Eastern and Northern Uganda.
Job Summary: The Parenting
and ECD Coordinator will provide leadership to re establishment of the
Parenting and ECD mandate of the project at regional level aimed at
mainstreaming effective Parenting and ECD practices and innovations using
developed parenting models. The incumbent will work closely with the Regional
Manager, Case Management, Youth Development, and Economic strengthening Team leads,
Civil Society organizations (CSOs), local agencies and eroded households to
oversee the development, implementation, an: evaluation of Parenting and ECD
interventions. S/he will lead r re inning and actual delivery of trainings on
effective Parenting an: ECD and will ensure effective documentation and
monitoring of the delivery of training models as well as the measurement of
impact of skills training on effective parenting and child upbringing. Working
stakeholders, the PEC will ensure parental capacity is I with improved family
relationships and increased engagement in their children’s education and general
social.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Manage and lead the implementation of the
    Parenting and ECD activities in the region
  • Provide technical guidance to the
    Parenting and ECD officers in planning and implementation of the Parenting
    and ECD training models
  • Take part in the development of project
    annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly work plans and scheduling of
    Parenting and ECD capacity building activities at community level.
  • Render support in the development of Parenting
    and ECD budgets and maintain high standards of stewardship and
    accountability for all activity resources
  • Provide mentorship, support supervision
    and coaching of CSOs and Project officers to enable them spearhead
    delivery of positive parenting and ECD services to beneficiary households.
  • Build and strengthen linkages and
    coordination between parenting and the ECD sector with the other
    components of the project (Economic strengthening, systems strengthening,
    case management).
  • Support
    and work with project staff from consortium partners and CSOs to
    ensure harmonized planning and implementation of activities in respective
    thematic areas to achieve project goals.
  • Support the identification and
    coordination of training needs of partner organizations (CSOs) and
    community structures in Parenting and
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation
    of community dialogue meeting and parenting outreaches at community level
    to strengthen parenting practices.
  • Represent World Education/Bantwana in
    technical meetings, and other collaborative activities relevant to
    parenting and ECO.
  • Work in close collaboration with various
    child protection service providers both formal and non-formal to ensure
    comprehensive service delivery to beneficiary vulnerable households.
  • Formulate
    monthly, quarterly, and annual activity and progress reports detailing
    trend in parenting and ECD activities



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The applicant for the USAID Project  Parenting and ECD Coordinator job
    placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Development
    Studies, Education or Community Psychology with relevant training in
    Project planning and management or child protection.
  • A
    minimum of three years’ experience working with Child protection focused
    projects, OVC programming, case management and knowledge of HIV/ AIDS
    service delivery among positive caregivers and children
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience
    with USAID funded programs/projects policies and procedures will be an
    added advantage.
  • Previous knowledge of child development
    and its influence on parent/child relationship in every stage of child’s
    development
  • Previous experience of working with a
    Parenting and ECD programme will are an added advantage.
  • Ability to work autonomously with
    demonstrated creativity, initiative j arc commitment.
  • Ability to work with multi sectoral
    external agencies, such as community social services, schools, health
    facilities, and OVC service providers.
  • Possess a high standard of personal and
    professional integrity
  • Willingness to work as a team member,
    taking on additional tasks as needed to ensure the overall success of the
    project
  • Keen attention to detail, ability to
    multi-task and work well under pressure in a culturally sensitive
    environment.
  • Strong analytical and inter-personal
    skills with excellent advocacy efforts
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal
    skills;
  • Strong documentation skills
