serve 625,000 orphans and vulnerable children and 101,500 families in 17
districts in Western and Central Uganda. This program is the Sustainable
Outcomes for Children and Youth in Central and Western Uganda (SOCY). CRS leads
a consortium that includes key local implementing partners, Action for
Community Development (ACODEV), African Network for Prevention and Protection
against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN), and TPO Uganda. International
implementing and resource partners include Palladium, the Institute of
Reproductive Health (IRH), Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) and Living
Goods. The program will improve outcomes for vulnerable children and youth by
strengthening the system that surrounds them. Caregivers will have greater
economic opportunities to increase their resilience and therefore be less
susceptible to shocks; local government structures and CSOs will be
strengthened to provide services targeting the diverse needs of vulnerable
children; and health and social service agencies will strengthen their
coordination and referral systems to provide integrated care along the
continuum of response.
Project Manager will support the USAID SOCY Project by growing
agriculture/value chain portfolio. The incumbent will engage directly with the
Coffee Specialists at partner level as well CRS staff. He/ she will oversee the
designing and implementation of the Coffee Value chain model contributing
towards the economic strengthening of OVC households. Working in close
collaboration with HRNS, he is expected to build capacity of the CRS staff, and
partners in improved coffee production, value addition. market linkages and
coffee-enterprise development. This capacity will cascade down to the household
through the SILC and Youth groups. The CTC will also ensure that monitoring and
evaluation tools for the Value Chain are developed, integrated at SOCY level
and administered.
Responsibilities:
- Actively promote and ensure that the program
makes optimal use of economic development models and frameworks to support
vulnerable communities improve their household incomes and contribute to
wellbeing of children, youth and transformation of families and
communities` - Provide vision and leadership to
effectively develop, promote, integrate and expand the coffee strategy
within the country portfolio, specifically in the SOCY project; - Oversee the pilot and upscaling of the
coffee value chain development models in the consortium and provide timely
and detailed feedback to improve implementation; - Prepare project specific work plans,
target setting, technical reports, detailed implementation plans,
quarterly and annual reports schedules based on project agreements and
contractual obligations; - Keenly monitor the quality of the Producer
Organizations (PO) through regular field visits and technical assistance
to partners on site; - Analyze coffee household data to support
program decision-making and design creative solutions for capacity
development; - Ensure full integration of activities
within the different result areas and cross fertilization within the
country programs while identifying opportunities for the producers,
especially the youth groups; - Actively contribute towards the learning
agenda and upscaling of good practices in the coffee value chain - Support SOCY MEL structures in program
review and planning activities and strengthen the Monitoring and
Evaluation systems in compliance with consortium requirements; - Build and maintain productive working relationships
with Local Government officials and line departments, soliciting their
participation in different activities where appropriate; - Collect and disseminate tools, resources
and useful practices to SOCY SILC staff and sub-grantees; - Provide support on technical initiatives,
including performing literature searches, investigating key issues, and
contributing to technical activities as required. - Represent CRS and SOCY in technical
working groups, at conferences, events, and other task forces dealing with
coffee, participate in the regional networking initiatives for coffee
practitioners. - Contribute to the development and
dissemination of success stories, how-to guides, tools, resources and
practices useful to SOCY project work and the country program;
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the USAID SOCY
Coffee Project Manager job placement must hold an MA in Crop Science,
agriculture, specializing in coffee or a related field, or equivalent
thorough experience in value chain development - At least five years of field experience in
value chain development, specifically coffee, market models and Producer
organization development. - Extensive knowledge of the stakeholders in
the agricultural/Coffee sector - Excellent interpersonal, communication and
network skills - Demonstrated competency in developing and
implementing effective agriculture strategies, - Proven ability to nature and/or build
effective partnerships with different partners - Computer literate with additional
expertise in statistical or other similar software is desirable - Use of ICT in value chains
- Ability to organize farmers into business
entities, including linking them to markets - Excellent written and verbal communication
skills. - Excellent computer skills, specifically in
MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - Keen attention to detail and ability to
complete tasks in a timely manner. - Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and respond to
multiple demands. - Responsive and able to draw from diverse
resources available. - Excellent teamwork abilities and
interpersonal skills. - Willingness and ability to travel
approximately 50% of work time. - Fluency in English.
