malaria and other diseases. CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on
improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for
treatment; accelerating access to life-saving technologies; and helping
governments build the capacity required for high-quality care and treatment
programs. Since its establishment in 2002 by President William J. Clinton and
Ira Magaziner,, CHAI has worked on the demand and supply sides of the market to
help more than 2 million HIV+ people access the medicines needed for
treatment—representing nearly half of all people and 2 out of 3 children on
HIV/AIDS treatment in developing countries. Building on this model, CHAI has
expanded its scope to include efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery systems
and to combat malaria and childhood illnesses.
Coordinator – ICH will provide technical assistance to enhance access to and
appropriate use of life-saving commodities for the prevention and management of
malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia among children aged less than five years at
facility and community levels. The incumbent will also help the Ministry of
Health and National level warehouses to strengthen the internal capacity
required to deliver those commodities to end users and ensure providers
optimize use. Furthermore, the Senior Coordinator will support the
implementation of a pilot study in three districts in Uganda designed to
generate evidence on maximizing operational feasibility of the use of
pre-referral QA rectal artesunate (QA RAS) for suspected severe malaria case
fatality rate at community level in Uganda. The Senior Coordinator will report
to the ICH Program Manager and will work closely with the Ministry of Health
(MOH) and District Health Offices and CHAI partners to support the effective
implementation of the CHAI integrated child health program with specific focus
on the Public Sector.
Responsibilities:
- Steer the implementation and adaptation of
a public sector strategy aiming at improving access to essential child
medicines and health services. - The incumbent will also support the
National Malaria Control Program, the Pharmacy Department and Child Health
Program of the Ministry of Health improve their program management
capacity with focus on strategy, logistics management, and monitoring and
evaluation of interventions with a focus on MNCH programming. - Take part in the development of a strategy
for collaboration with major public and private medicines procurement
agencies and distributors (NMS, JMS, MAUL, UHMG) and support
implementation of the strategy. - Support national policy development and
strengthening of regulatory frameworks for essential child health
commodities (with preferential focus on malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia)
to align with national and international standards. - Support the Ministry of Health build the
capacity of health providers to appropriately use essential child health
commodities to manage common childhood illnesses - Support CHAI and partners implement
interventions to generate evidence on maximizing operational feasibility
of the use of pre-referral QA rectal artesunate for suspected severe
malaria case fatality rate at community level in Uganda. - Build strong working relationships with
key technical partners to ensure coordination of resources and efforts - Support engagement and representation
activities including participation in designated technical working group
and technical committee meetings at the national level as specified by
supervisor. - Support ICH business development
initiatives and business case development through identifying funding
opportunities and supporting the required business cases and funding
applications - Work closely with CHAI ICH leadership to
ensure CHAI’s resources and expertise are fully leveraged to meet needs
in-country - Perform any other duties as may be
assigned.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Clinton Health
Access Initiative Senior Coordinator, Integrated Child Health job
placement should preferably hold a Bachelors’ Degree in a relevant field - At least five years of relevant work
experience minimum; with 5-10 years strongly preferred in a demanding,
results-oriented environment- a background in healthcare, strategy
consulting, or a related field - At least three years of work experience in
a demanding, results-oriented environment - Broad knowledge, understanding and
experience working with government agencies at national and local
government levels - The Coordinator must be a strategic
thinker with the exceptional quantitative and coordination skills. - He/she must be a highly motivated
individual with outstanding academic credentials and a strong record of
achievement. - Excellent problem solving, analytical and
quantitative skills, including demonstrated competence in MS Excel and MS
PowerPoint - Excellent written and oral communication
skills - Ability to handle multiple tasks
