The Aga Khan University (AKU) is a private, not-for-profit,
international University first established in 1983, with 13 teaching sites in
eight countries. AKU has seven hospitals and over 250 outreach health centres.
The University is a non-denominational institution open to all, irrespective of
religion, ethnicity, gender or national origin. Since 2001, AKU has offered
academic programmes in nursing, medicine and education for East African
Countries. The Aga Khan University has established a campus in Kampala Uganda.
Job Summary: The Procurement
Manager will be responsible for the entire procurement, inventory management
and distribution function for the AKUH Kampala Project. This includes ensuring
timely and cost effective purchase of supplies, owner furnished material and
equipment for the project.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Work in liaison with the approved
    Consultant/s coordinate the entire process of documentation, tendering and
    contract award
  • Tasked with supervising the procurement
    functions of construction related material
  • In charge of managing the purchase of
    medical and non-medical equipment and supplies
  • Overseeing all inventory management
    functions, quality control, warehousing and distribution.
  • Ensuring the procurement process is
    executed effectively keeping in mind the institutional objective of cost
    effectiveness, customer satisfaction and quality standards
  • Tasked with managing inventory levels and
    plan the purchasing to avoid express couriers and air lifting of cargo
  • Ensuring compliance with institutional
    procurement procedures and ethical supply chain management conduct,
    thereby maintaining complete transparency in all purchasing decisions
  • Prequalifying suppliers and ensuring
    annual appraisal / evaluation



Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Procurement Manager
    job opportunity should hold a Master’s degree in Business Administration
  • Professional Qualification in Supply Chain
    Management
  • Previous exposure and experience in
    procurement in a health care set would be an added advantage
