Experience:
- The applicant for the VSO Head of
Programmes job opportunity must hold a higher level degree in Public Health or Social Development studies
or any other related relevant field. - A
minimum of seven or more years of senior level programme leadership
and management experience in a complex the INGO. - Previous
exposure and experience of working collaboratively as a member of a Senior
Management Team member, and of building partnerships in a
multi-cultural environment. - Substantial
prior success in developing successful, major, multiyear proposals
and securing funding. - Proven
experience of managing and ensuring high quality delivery of complex and
multi donor programmes - Previous
experience in diverse, holistic, integrated development programming
including in livelihoods, education and health. - Significant
exposure and experience in M&E and ability to apply range of
techniques. - Effective
leadership and people management skills; experience of developing,
coaching and managing high performing teams - Ability
to prioritise tasks, manage time and tight schedules, work effectively
under pressure, and assist direct reports with prioritisation of
tasks and meeting deadlines. - Significant
exposure and experience in financial management and ability to develop and
monitor programme budgets. - Strong
representation and negotiation skills ability to negotiate and maintain
relations with external stakeholders. - Ability
to develop multiple ideas to solve an issue or situation and take a
swift decision, including in a high risk situation. - Excellent
written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. - Strong
training and facilitation skills - Computer
skills – MS Office, Outlook, Internet. - Ability
to travel and work long hours, including work away from the home base for
up to 30% of time, both within the country and occasionally
internationally and some weekend and evening work. - Good
understanding of the Uganda context. - Previous
exposure an dexperience in implementing grants from major bilateral and
multilateral donors, including but not limited to UNICEF, EU and
DfID, USAID, IrishAid, EU, UN, and major Trusts and Foundations. - Hands-on
experience gained within a volunteering/NGO context and of managing
a volunteer programme
