between them worldwide. British Council Uganda is based in Kampala and offers a
full range of programmes including examinations, project management on behalf
of other donors, and its own grant funded projects. British Council has
operated in Uganda since 1952 and its aim is to build cultural and educational
relations between Uganda and the UK.
Officer, Arts and Education supports the Uganda Arts team and the wider British
Council team to deliver an engaging East Africa Arts programme that builds
knowledge and understanding between the UK and Uganda. The Project Officer will administrate and
deliver logistics, and evaluate Arts and Education programme outputs, working
with partners and stakeholders to meet the Council’s strategic objectives under
the British Council’s Arts, Education & Society programmes.
Responsibilities:

global, regional and country plans. Manage, plan and co-ordinate events. This
will include:
- The jobholder will research UK and East
African cultural partners in order to share knowledge on the UK and East
Africa’s art sector and broker new connections between UK and East African
artists and organisations. - Deliver and implement programme activity
assigned from a work plan, using resources efficiently and cost
effectively, to deliver impact within Uganda and East Africa. - Keenly monitor audience numbers and
audience engagement in programme activities, reporting information and
data to Project Manager. - Monitor programme activity progress
against plans and schedules and make adjustments accordingly. - Work closely with partners, clients and
customers in delivering effective Arts and Education programme activities. - Actively contribute to effective
communication and marketing plans for programme activities and complete
allocated tasks / outputs to BC brand and quality standards. - Contribute to risk management of programme
activity. - Ensure that programme records and
archiving are completed in line with corporate policy on data protection
and information management.

of management information systems and evaluation of project outputs. This will
include, among others:
- Implement questionnaire surveys, and
collate, qualitative and quantitative data for East Africa Arts and
Education programme activities. - Actively contribute to the growth of and
maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of contacts engaged within
the portfolio of Arts and Education projects. - Prepare case studies and compelling impact
stories that can be used in highlighting long-term, sustainable outcomes
and programme impact. - Ensure that agreed project targets are met
(or exceeded)
the delivery of agreed marketing and communications strategy outputs. This will
include, but not limited to:
- Support the Project Manager to ensure all
East Africa Arts activities are well documented and communicated to UK and
East African 18-35 year old audiences. - Work closely with Project Manager to
develop an audience for the British Council’s East Africa Arts programme
in Uganda through the delivery of relevant digital communications
strategies. - Work with the Uganda Communications
Officer and agencies to ensure that promotional and branded materials meet
branding standards. - Scan, locate and archive online and in
print press related to East Africa Arts and Education programme
activities.
- Support Programmes teams with the
procurement of goods and services in line with established corporate
policies and guidelines. - Support Programmes teams in the monitoring
of programme budgets in line with established corporate policies and
guidelines. - Ensure the administrative purchase to pay
process is executed in line with corporate standards. - Create and manage Programmes purchase
orders and ensure appropriate management of invoicing and payment of
suppliers and vendors.
inclusion (EDI) and Child Protection standards:
- Support the Project Manager to ensure that
project delivery and activities reflect British Council EDI policy. - Ensure that Child Protection policy and
Child Safe standards are followed and maintained for all relevant
projects, and all specific aspects within projects.
Experience:
- The applicant for the British Council
Project Officer, Arts & Education job placement should possess a
University Degree - Project management qualification is
desired - At least two years of experience of
working to support multi-partner funded projects, and a range of
outsourced partners - Previous experience of working to tight
deadlines and targets, giving close attention to detail throughout - Experience in event planning &
administration is an added advantage - Previous work on Arts related programmes
is desired - Working knowledge of SAP or another
finance planning/procurement/ reporting systems an advantage - Prior skills or experience in project /
program delivery
systems/procedures, and has proven track record, as a project team member, of
compliance with these.
