Hunger (ACF)
has been in existence for over thirty years. ACF has been implementing Food Security
and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in the
Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions of Northern Uganda.
Officer will be responsible for strengthening the capacity of the district
health systems to provide preventive services against malnutrition among South
Sudanese refugee communities and host communities.
Responsibilities:
- Streamline and ensure implementation of
Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives (BFHI)policies at all health facilities - Make sure that all health facilities
implementing BFHI achieve certification from the Ministry of health - Strengthen the linkages between Village
Health Teams (VHT) screening, follow up and referrals from community to
the health facilities.
- Identify training needs for health workers
and VHTs related to nutrition and primary health care and facilitate
Continued Medical Educations (CME)for health workers on nutrition and
health. - Provide support in the development of
capacity building plan for program supported facilities in the areas of
operations. - Organize/Arrange health workers trainings
on IYCF/IMAM/BFHI/Essential Nutrition Action (ENA) Vitamins and Mineral
Powders (VMP) - Assist in the development and
dissemination of relevant Information Education Materials (IEC) materials
on IMAM, BFHI and IYCF.
- Ensure that health facilities are supplied
with data collection tools for regular data collection - Ensure health facilities receive the
necessary available logistical support (equipment, pallets, therapeutic
feeds
- Ensure attendance and active engagement of
staff under your supervision in their duties and tasks. - Coordinate the staff under your supervision.
- Ensure technical and managerial support
for staff under your supervision
- Mobilize communities and community leaders
to participate in Action Against Hunger project community activities
organize regular community meetings to address areas for program
improvement - Participate in internal and external
meetings according to the DPM guidance - Work closely with the district VHT
coordinator to ensure active engagement of VHTs in the catchment area - Actively participate in events organized
in the refugee and host community settings.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Action Against
Hunger (ACF) Nutrition Officer job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s
degree in nutrition, Public Health, Environmental Health or related field - At least two years’ experience in
community nutrition programs preferably in a refugee setting - Extensive knowledge and experience in
community nutrition implementation - Strong communication skills (written and
oral) in English - Excellent facilitation skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and
make decisions independently - Extremely flexible with the ability to
cope with stressful situations - Excellent reporting skills with good oral
and written communication skills - Knowledge of the local language is an
added advantage - Diplomatic and culturally sensitive
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Fluency in the local language is a must
- Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet
and software use like ENA, SPSS plus other programs - Ability to ride with valid riding permit
applications which should include ONLY a cover letter, CV (not more than 4
pages) with at least three referees and a daytime telephone contract. For email
