Hunger (ACF)
has been in existence for over thirty years. ACF has been implementing Food
Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in
the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions of Northern Uganda.
Nutrition Officer will be responsible for supporting all community activities
at the field level which include nutrition screening; referral and follow up by
VHTs; Vitamin and Mineral Powders (VMPs) activities through Village Health
Teams (VHTs) and Health Assistants to ensure beneficiary identification,
community mobilization and sensitization. Other key deliverables include
supporting capacity building activities for VHTs; organizing district and
community sensitization meetings on VMPs with proper distribution; beneficiary
follow up and proper utilization of the VMPs at household level among South
Sudanese refugees with children 24-59 months.
Responsibilities:
- Strengthen the linkages between community
based health structures for early case identification, referral and
management of acute malnutrition and common childhood illnesses - Work closely with the Health Assistants to
ensure that VHTs are selected in all project locations following the
recommended MOH guidelines.
- Organize VHT refresher trainings on
health/nutrition /VMPs - Organize a refresher training for VHTs on
nutrition and health - Organize district and settlement
stakeholder sensitization meetings on VMPs - Train and support mentorships for VHTs on
VMPs
- Participate in the end line survey to
evaluate VMP adherence, acceptability, coverage and beneficiary experience - Ensure regular collection of household
nutrition data, compilation and reporting.
- Organize and facilitate regular meetings
with VHTs, assess their performance and provide regular feedback on the
matters discussed - Identify and propose training needs of
VHTs in accordance to the program requirements - Carry out on-the-job mentorship and
supervision for the VHTs - Ensure that staffs under your supervision
are effectively engaged in their tasks
- Mobilize communities and community leaders
to participate in Action Against Hunger project community activities and
organize regular community meetings to address areas for program
improvement - Participate in internal and external
meetings according to the Supervisor’s guidance - Work closely with the district VHT
coordinator to ensure active engagement of VHTs in the catchment area.
- The ideal candidate for the Action Against
Hunger (ACF) Community Nutrition Officer job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s
degree in Nutrition or related field with experience in implementing a
project on Micro Nutrient Powder supplementation. - At least two years’ experience in
community nutrition programs preferably in a refugee setting - Extensive knowledge and experience in
implementation of VMPs, Community Nutrition and health programs - Excellent communication skills (written
and oral) in English - Knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet
and software use like ENA, SPSS plus other programs advantageous - Excellent facilitation skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and
make decisions independently - Extremely flexible with the ability to
cope with stressful situations - Excellent reporting skills with good oral
and written communication skills - Knowledge of the local language is an
added advantage - Highly diplomatic and culturally sensitive
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Fluency in the local language is a must
- Possession of a valid riding permit
