Organization incorporated in Uganda in 2015 with NGO board registration number
11619. AFOD Uganda seeks to work closely with rural and urban poor communities
across the country to address their real needs and build local partnership with
institutions/communities and support community structures to jointly identify
and address the underlying causes of poor health and steer social change.
Job Summary: The Protection
and Gender Assistant will be managing and coordinating gender and child
protection issues, providing technical guidance and policy interpretation to
all stakeholders and beneficiaries for decision-making.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Visiting
    villages, camps and other IDP settlements to meet with community members
    in order to identify protection needs.
  • Tasked
    with ensuring that assessments are undertaken in a consultative manner
    including the participation of men, women, children and elderly.
  • Ensuring
    that protection is mainstreamed throughout all data collection including a
    focus on serving the most vulnerable members of the community.
  • Responsible
    for strengthening research and relationship with community leaders
    in order to maintain good access to persons of concern.
  • Tasked
    with coordinating crossing issues with government institutions and
    development partners.
  • Encouraging
    and facilitating informal groups of IDPs to meet in order to collect
    information about protection needs of the vulnerable community members,
    identify possible community-based solutions and make referrals.
  • Making
    connections with humanitarian services providers and encouraging their communication
    with community members.
  • Offering
    mediation to settle disputes where possible.
  • Keeping
    records of the protection and humanitarian needs identified and the
    actions taken to assist them.
  • In
    charge of monitoring and reporting on matters of concern to all key
    stakeholders
  • Completing
    and submitting weekly reports.
  • Offering
    technical guidance and policy interpretation with regards to gender mainstreaming
    within the projects.
  • Setting
    priorities, developing and implementing a clear and comprehensive gender framework
    and action plan.
  • Sending
    feedback to project staff to ensure the practical implementation of
    activities within gender framework considering gender perspectives.
  • In
    charge of reviewing, editing and giving monthly, quarterly and annual
    progress reports on gender achievements.
  • Developing
    gender action plan for mainstreaming gender.
  • Performing
    any other relevant duties assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s degree in development
    studies, gender studies, social science, public admiration or related
    field.
  • At least two years working experience with civil society organisation on
    gender and protection or related field is an added advantage.
  • Strong sense of adaptability and ability
    to work and live in stressed, unstable environment and multi-cultural
    setting.
  • Willingness
    to travel and work in remote areas
  • Code of conduct as relevant to procurement
    and logistics, commitment, time management/ ability to work for longer
    hours, loyalty, patience, emotional intelligence and Tolerance
  • Skills: Awareness raising and
    outreach, excellent knowledge of Microsoft word and excel, fluency in both
    spoken and written English, facilitation and coordination, team building
    and management and report writing and presentation.
