(NGO) which specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation, reconciliation,
resettlement and follow-up of children living on the streets. The overall objective
of DP is to have a society where every child has a chest to rest their head on
and a place to call home.
will be responsible for the creation of financial transactions including
posting information to accounting journals from such source documents as
invoices to customers, cash receipts, and supplier invoices. The bookkeeper
also will reconcile accounts to ensure their accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will receive cash from the
finance office and pay customers - Pay supplier invoices in a timely manner
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing
system for Dwelling Places - Maintain the chart of accounts
- Conduct periodic reconciliations of all
accounts to ensure their accuracy - Maintain the petty cash fund to pay
suppliers - The incumbent will calculate variances
from the budget and report significant issues to management - Keenly monitor debt levels and compliance
with debt covenants - Issue invoices to customers
- Ensure that receivables are collected
promptly - Actively contributes to team effort by
accomplishing related results as needed. - Regularly update Quickbooks
- Ensure all accountabilities are in by
close of business every Friday - Manage petty cash
- Prepare and submit accounts weekly and
monthly reports.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold
a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business administration, or its
equivalent - A minimum of two years’ experience in a
busy finance department. - Broad working knowledge of bookkeeping and
generally accepted accounting principles. - Keen attention to detail
- Computer literacy skills i.e. Ms Word,
Excel, Financial packages and Internet. Experience in preparing and
producing spreadsheets and using bookkeeping software will be necessary. - Excellent grasp of the English language:
verbal and written. - Excellent analytical skills with the
ability to pre-empt and resolve mathematical problems. - Excellent communication and relationship
building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a
variety of internal and external stakeholders. - Previous experience in tally and good
understanding of Accounting and financial reporting principles - High level of confidentiality required
