the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the
elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to
facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
Monitoring Program:
National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) are undertaking the Fuel Marking and
Quality Monitoring Program (FMP) to monitor the importation and trade of
petroleum products by preventing adulteration, dilution, contamination and
smuggling thereby safeguarding consumers and the environment in addition to
enhancing Uganda’s national revenue collections. The program is run as a
cooperative arrangement under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that was
signed by the two institutions.
Technician will take part in the chemical analyses of Fuel samples.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare reagents and standard solutions
- Maintain glassware and equipment in
operating conditions and service checks - Schedule routine analysis/testing of
samples and interprets results to make reports - Receive samples and plan for inputs
required by the - Laboratory to be analysed/tested and
produce certificates - Develop corrective actions and maintain
the Laboratory and report any breakage of equipment to the Head of
Laboratory to improve as may be necessary Supervise housekeeping of the
laboratory - Prepare lists of items to be procured
- Actively participate in carrying out
petroleum quality monitoring activities - Provide support in the general maintenance
of Petroleum Laboratory equipment - Ensure safe custody of petroleum samples
- Ensure operational safety of the
laboratory facilities and equipment - Keep the laboratory environment safe,
clean and free from hazardous exposure - Perform any other duties as may be
assigned from time to time
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Uganda
National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Laboratory Technician job should hold
a Diploma in Biochemistry or Chemistry or Petroleum from a recognized
University/Institution - A minimum of two years’ experience in a
reputable laboratory - Knowledge of Business working Environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills. - High integrity, innovative, creative and
self-driven. - Age: Between 25 – 30 years.
