Job Summary: The Senior
Accountant will assist the Financial Controller by focusing on financial
planning, budget analysis and oversight, ensuring that internal and external
reporting deadlines are being met and to ensure that TechnoServe and donor
financial guidelines are being adhered to.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Provide advice on financial options
    available in project planning and implementation
  • Assist the Financial controller in ensuring
    that the information in the Fixed Asset register accurately reflects the
    information per the financial system
  • Tasked with implementing grant
    tracking/monitoring system and monitoring grant expenditures
  • Support Financial Controller in analyzing
    of costs as required and to provide advice on any variance requiring
    management attention
  • Responsible for identifying and
    contributing to the improvement of internal systems and procedures within
    the finance department and Support the implementation of new financial
    policies and procedure
  • Assisting staff to develop a stronger
    understanding of TechnoServe Inc. systems and procedures
  • Manage Payroll in liaison with HR and
    ensure timely submission of pension deductions and statutory returns i.e.
    PAYE, NSSF, LST
  • Support the Financial Controller and
    program staff to develop budgets (these are a key component of any
    proposal) for submission to donors while ensuring that all proposed
    activities are well budgeted for
  • Process payments, Monitor the cash
    positions to ensure that business cash flow adequately supports project
    activities
  • Tasked with coordinating the compilation
    of all internal and external financial reports/proposals for all
    projects/programs
  • Providing relevant, useful and timely
    information to senior management with respect to the current financial
    position and financial consequences of any proposed decisions or
    activities
  • Ensure accounting data accuracy and
    timeliness for informed decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with TNS policies and
    procedures
  • Ensure all taxation and legislative
    requirements of host government are compiled with at all times.
  • On an ongoing basis review, expenditures
    to ensure grant compliance with donor and TNS requirements.
  • Ensure that TNS property is insured for
    all possible risks.
  • Prepare and maintain an annual audit field
    for review by internal and external auditors.
  • Work closely with external audit on the
    implementation of audit recommendations given in the reports to TNS
  • Initiate and present other reports,
    statistics, and presentations as requested by senior management and line
    managers
  • Tasked with managing performance and
    conducting performance evaluations of financial personnel
  • Provide support in the building of the
    financial management capacity of local Finance staff through on the job training
    and also identifying further formal training needs and if applicable,
    facilitating with such training.
  • Support training of field staff in
    principles of financial reporting and financial and administrative control
    for field site operations
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold
    a Business degree. Accounting qualification e.g. CPA, ACCA is an added
    advantage
  • At least three to four years’ experience
    in a similar position within a large private sector company, international
    organization or a consulting firm.
  • Computer literacy skills:
    Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use specific computer programs or
    applications for own functional area. Has the ability to improve
    performance by integrating new and existing technology into the workplace.
  • Financial & Resource Management:
    an important competency program staff must possess to enable them budget
    properly based on facts and change course when necessary, knowledge of
    finance to develop and manage budgets.
  • Internal Client Focus: Client
    Focus is based on the ability to under-stand the client’s needs and
    concerns in the short to long-term and to provide sound recommendations
    and/or solutions.
  • Compliance & Governance:
    Compliance with and knowledge of company policies, applicable legislation,
    grant requirements, donor contracts, the local labor code and tax laws.
