About US:
Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under
the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the
elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to
facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The Principal Standards Officer-
    Engineering Division will develop
    the Divisional work plan and budget in line with the organizational
    strategic plan and monitor its implementation
  • Offer
    technical support to the Technical Committee secretaries in the Division
    to ensure that the principles and procedures of developing of
    standards are followed
  • Develop
    training programs to mentor staff in the Division to ensure the
    development of needed competencies in standards development and
    promotion
  • The
    incumbent will develop regional and international standards
    together with national delegates
  • Create,
    update and maintain structures for the development and issuance of
    standards in line with the national economic programmes
  • Develop
    training needs assessment programs and conduct baseline study in
    new areas that require standardization
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Uganda
    National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) Principal Standards Officer-
    Engineering Division job placement should hold a Masters’ degree in Science or any other related field from a
    recognized University/Institute
  • The
    applicant must also hold an Honours Degree in Biology, Food science, Food
    Technology, Engineering or any other science related qualification
    from a recognized University/Institution
  • Attended
    training in ISO 9001 is an added advantage
  • At
    least eight years’ experience in Standards, Quality Assurance, or quality
    control, Standards
  • Development or Laboratory Testing after
    graduation
  • Hands-on
    supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and deliver results
    efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Good
    people leadership and functional management competencies with hands-on
    skills in Risk Management and internal controls in the functional
    areas
  • Computer
    literacy skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
    Internet applications
  • Possess a high level of integrity and
    professionalism
  • Excellent communication with good oral
    communication and presentation skills.
  • High team ethic and good analytical skills
  • Good team player 
  • Age: 30 – 45 years
