University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP)
profit Company under Makerere University. MJAP works to build partnerships and
strengthen health systems to optimally respond to HIV/AIDS, TB and other
diseases of public health importance in Africa.
Program (RHSP) to implement a program on Accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control
in Masaka region (Gomba, Butambala, Sembabule and Mpigi districts). In
addition, MJAP is anticipating a sub-award grant for accelerating HIV/AIDS
Epidemic Control in Kampala region; under the President’s Emergency Plan for
AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Officer will work closely with the DHTs to support implementation and
monitoring of quality HIV/TB laboratory services, and build the capacity of
Laboratory technical staff in line with Ministry of Health guidelines and
standards.
Responsibilities:
- Offer technical support to district and
facility staff in the development/review of annual work-plans and budgets
for Laboratory services. - Build the capacity of laboratory staff in
supported health facilities to provide standard laboratory services and
maintain quality assurance and control in all the laboratories. - Provide technical support to initiate,
update and monitor the implementation of guidelines/SOPs for provision of
laboratory services at all the supported health sites. - Support utilization of lab LMIS at all the
health supported sites in line with MOH reporting requirements. - Support targeted training in the SOPs for
selection, forecasting and quantifying of laboratory reagents and supplies
to meet patient treatment requirements/guidelines. - Jointly with the DHTs assess the
suitability of laboratory infrastructure and recommend the required
standard for the modification and construction of the laboratory. - Provide technical support for Bio-waste
Management and maintaining bio-safety standards.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Makerere
University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) Laboratory Officer should preferably
hold a Bachelor’s degree in
Laboratory Sciences from a recognized university or its equivalent - A
minimum of two years’ experience in providing and supervising laboratory
services in a busy health facility - Additional
training in Public health is added advantage - The
applicant must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council - Hold
a Valid practicing license. - Registered
with the Allied Professional’s Council - Broad knowledge and understanding of the role of the
laboratory in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, TB/HIV, TB
DOTS, etc - Proven ability of providing technical assistance to Ministries of Health
and their laboratories systems in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring
of HIV/AIDS services - Excellent
interpersonal and Communication skills - Good training and facilitation skills.
