About US:
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an international non-profit
organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health specialists.
The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems with strong
emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity Development. IDI
has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission:
Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services
(provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John Hopkins
University Core Lab) and Outreach.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Manage Infectious Diseases Institute
    assets, sites and office buildings in line with the, relevant Estates
    Management Standards, Occupational Safety & Health guidelines to the
    highest possible standards at all times.
  • In charge of the development of design
    drawings and specifications for renovation and new construction works.
  • Develop standard BOQs as per SMM and
    estimates for construction works as per prevailing markets standard.
  • Responsible for supervising, coordinating
    and monitoring contractors carrying out construction works for Infectious
    Diseases Institute so as to adhere to the required standards and for the
    organization to attain value for money.
  • In charge of managing contracts and
    preparation of interim certificates.
  • Manage utilities (water, electricity) and
    reconciling with internal estimates of the organization’s premises.
  • Adopt all relevant requirement around
    issues such as building permits environmental regulations, sanitary
    design, good manufacturing practices and safety on all work assignments.
  • The incumbent will also ensure that
    projects run smoothly and that the assigned structural works are completed
    on time and within budget.
  • Manage change as the client may change
    designs and ensure relevant parties are notified of changes in the
    project.
  • Assess potential project risks, clear
    documents of such risks, recommend mitigating measures and communicate to
    all relevant parties.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Infectious
    Diseases Institute (IDI) Facilities Engineer (Civil) should preferably
    hold an Honors degree in Civil Engineering.
  • At least three years of related experience
    in facilities management/ building construction at a supervision level
    from a reputable organization with a similar setting to Infectious
    Diseases Institute.
  • Extensive knowledge/ qualification and
    experience in construction management and estates/ facilities maintenance
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    project management principles such as scheduling and reporting.
  • Proven experience to develop
    specifications and bill of quantities for construction works.
  • Computer literacy skills with proficiency
    in CAD software (AutoCAD or Archicad) and Microsoft office is a must.
  • The applicant must be a registered member
    of any professional institution at minimum of graduate level.
  • Ability to work as part of a team,
    supervise and develop subordinates;
  • Excellent interpersonal, particularly
    staff/management relations, oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem solving techniques;
  • High level of Integrity.
