Job Summary: The Child
Poverty Specialist will play a focal role in the direction and coordination of
the programming section. As a member of the Extended Senior Management Team
(ESMT) in Uganda, the person is responsible for the development of high
quality, innovative programs that deliver immediate and lasting change for
children, youth and monitoring the quality of the implementation of
Livelihoods, Food Security, DRR/Climate Change Adaptation, Social Protection,
Skills Development program activities. The incumbent plays a key role in developing
the advocacy priorities for the Livelihoods, Food Security, DRR/Climate Change
Adaptation, Social Protection, Skills Development program area and
participating in advocacy, particularly at the National level. In addition, the
job holder is responsible for providing technical assistance and appropriate
monitoring and evaluation in emergency responses.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Save the
    Children International Child Poverty Specialist job placement should preferably
    hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Sciences, Education,
    Development Studies, Emergency and Disaster Management, Agriculture,
    Conflict Resolution or a relevant field. 
    Graduate or post-graduate training in project planning &
    management, monitoring and evaluation, community development &
    research or related field is an added advantage
  • At least eight years of relevant working
    experience with three years at management level in an international NGO.
  • Past exposure and experience of working
    with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights
    Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is
    an added advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic
    planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive
    collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Computer literacy and excellent
    documentation skills are a must.
  • Willingness to travel and work in
    hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and
    ability to work well in an international environment with people from
    diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to intervene with crisis
    management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and
    communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Excellent time management and planning
    capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra
    hours during times of humanitarian responses.
