licensed micro finance deposit taking institution in Uganda, and currently
offers loans, savings and money transfer services in Uganda, one of the most
competitive and dynamic microfinance markets in the world.
Job Summary: The Chief
Operations Officer will have direct supervision over functional sections that
lead or support the development of new businesses and the transformation of
products and processes: Credit Analytics, Products Development, Customer
Experience, New Delivery Channels development and piloting, and Policies and
Procedures related to all these. The incumbent will ensure that FINCA will
develop competitive products and channels aligned with FINCA’s strategic plan,
that support outreach maximization under the condition of profitability; and
that these products and delivery channels are piloted to reach results that are
efficient, client-friendly, safe, and professional. As a member of the EXCO,
s/he shares responsibility for the overall performance and activities of FINCA,
and participates in making decisions on material issues at the EXCO.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Tasked with the development of Product
    policies and procedures.
  • Take lead of the transformation of FINCA’s
    credit organization based on combining credit scoring, mobile financial
    services, and centralized credit approval and underwriting.
  • Oversee the process for the sourcing,
    development and testing of new products in FINCA. Develop and update
    profit models per product.
  • Lead projects to develop and test new
    business units based on new technologies or channels. Upon successful
    completion of pilots, hand over the new business unit to the Chief
    Commercial Officer (CCO).
  • Responsible for the development of a
    business intelligence and analytics role
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold an  MBA (or equivalent) in related
    discipline.
  • At least eight years of banking experience
    in retail or commercial banking and -experience in credit operations,
    experience in microfinance operations is an added advantage.
  • Project management. Demonstrated
    experience in product development and digital financial service solutions
  • Previous project management experience
  • Significant experience in Digital
    financial services solution implementations.
  • Good negotiator and strong value for
    partnerships and relationship management
  • Excellent organizational, planning,
    analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Significant experience in credit and
    savings policies and risk in the financial sector
  • Good leader, with ability to manage change
    and conflicts, leveraging diversity, developing others and a collaborator.
