than 72 million people. CARE International in Uganda (CARE) works with others
to make a sustainable improvement in the lives of the very poor, with a focus
on women and girls. Our current program focusses on women and girls’ economic
rights, particularly financial inclusion and governance of natural resources
women and girls depend upon, and on their sexual and reproductive health
rights, including a life free of violence. Our programming is guided by our

on an emergency program funded by ECHO, a one-year programme whose main
objective is to save lives, reduce suffering, promote human dignity and
increase resilience of refugees and host communities, in particular women,
girls and boys, in the Bidibidi settlement in Yumbe district and Imvepi and Rhino
Camp settlements in Arua district. It will also aim to reduce vulnerability of
refugees by tackling social exclusion through its use of participatory and
empowering approaches. As a result, the most marginalized members of the
society, particularly vulnerable women and female headed households, are able
to benefit from the programme. The emergency programme will be using a rights
based approach and will strengthen women’s ability to exercise their rights in
a community. The project will work in the districts of Arua and Yumbe.
Construction Site Assistant will mainly ensure technical quality of the
emergency shelter programming at field level. The jobholder will be responsible
for the supervision of construction activities and provision of technical
assistance to service contractors hired for shelter construction.
Experience:
- The applicant for the CARE International
Construction Site Assistant job placement must hold a Diploma studies in
Architecture or Civil Engineering - One year of humanitarian aid experience in
a similar role, preferably in emergency shelter projects in refugee
settlements; - Demonstrated professional work experience
in humanitarian shelter construction and understanding of emergency
response programming can substitute for qualifications but not vice versa - Familiarity with displacement sites and
inter-sectoral coordination with humanitarian actors, local and national
authorities - Excellent interpersonal and team skills;
- Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency
in MS-Office - Fluency in written and spoken English,
Arabic preferred; - Excellent self-organizational skills
- Pro-active and helpful attitude, ready to
take on variety of new tasks and adjust to rapidly changing context and
needs - Ability to multi-task and meet tight
deadlines; - Ability to manage competing priorities.
