(MRC/UVRI) based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe is a
bilateral multi-disciplinary research organization funded by, the Medical
Research Council (UK) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in
Uganda under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and
other donor agencies. Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on
AIDS is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research on HIV
infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving
epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and
prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and
worldwide.
Worker/ Mobiliser will provide support in the implementation of community
activities required for the recruitment and follow-up of a cohort of high-risk
women, their regular male partners and children in Kampala and its suburbs.
Responsibilities:
- The
incumbent will ensure that Female Sex Workers (FSW) and their
partners are mobilized and enrolled in the clinic to receive the services
provided - At
the end of each week, a check should be done to verify whether the
expected new women and men attended their screening and enrolment visit
and a report compiled - Carry
out timely tracing of enrolled clients who have missed their follow-up or
return visits. - Maintain
and regular update the database which contains the contact details and
information of the clients. - Follow-up
clients who are needed for ART refills or those to be started on
ART. - The
Field Worker/ Mobiliser will also follow-up clients needed for ongoing research studies. - The
jobholder will increase awareness and understanding of condom use in
relation to HIV acquisition and transmission among bar and lodge owners/
managers in Kampala and its suburb. - Tasked
with strengthening the community liaison system with the target community
and project collaborators in order to establish effective partnership and
enable open communication among all parties. - Perform
any other duties as allocated by the Project Leaders/Coordinator
Experience:
- The applicant for the Field Worker/
Mobiliser job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in SWASA or relevant - Possession
of a certificate in computer applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power
point) is desired - Previous
exposure and experience in community mobilisation and sensitisation - The
applicant must be proficiency in riding motorcycles with Class A
riding permit - Fluent
in English and Luganda.
