Uganda
development organization which has over half a century of participatory,
integrated and people-centered development in the continents of Asia, Africa,
and Latin America. It was established by Dr. Y. C. James Yen in 1960. Its programs cover education, food security
and asset building, environment, and applied learning. It also provides
international and customized courses and training covering various themes,
including, natural resources and food security, gender and development,
business development, organizational development, and participatory approaches.
Director serves as senior manager on all aspects of the Uganda Programmes. The
incumbent supports the CD with general program development and implementation
activities, including the management, supervision and coordinating the four
strategic programs – Food Security and Wealth Creation, Livelihood Resilience
and Natural Resource management and Education.
Responsibilities:
- Providing support in the development and
implementation of current programs and contribute to the development of
new initiatives that contribute to national and regional priorities; - Supporting in the effective strategic
monitoring and evaluation of four program interventions, measuring the
impact of the programs and, when relevant, its timely readjustment; - Build and strengthen relationships with
partner organizations, including donors, government, the private sector
and government departments to achieve the strategic outcomes - Guiding program counterparts and Uganda’s
senior management and guiding relevant Uganda team on the design and
formulation of program interventions, contributing to realization of IIRR
country priorities. - Developing and maintaining strategic
partnerships, supports resource mobilization efforts in cooperation with
the Uganda Senior Management team; - Provide direction and coordination of the
Program lead managers, ensuring operational excellence in execution of
Uganda programs in accordance with the Strategy 2020 - Work in liaison with the CD to develop
technical proposals and prepare budgets for assignment bids; - Providing strategic management and
oversight of planning, budgeting and implementing of all Uganda
interventions including resource allocation, mobilization and control and
cost efficiency; - Ensuring the effective monitoring of Uganda
program interventions in the evaluation of development results, in terms
of progress made towards achieving intended programmatic goals in Uganda. - Assuming acting functions in the absence
of, or by delegation from the CD, of all programmatic matters of the
Uganda office; - Perform any other duties as assigned
Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s egree
in Economics and or Organisational Development or other relevant field is
preferred. - At least seven years’ experience in
international development in a management role; - Strong leadership and people management
skills at a senior level; - Previous exposure and experience in
developing new programming, ideally across multiple sectors; - Experience in Food security and Livelihood
Resilience programming is an added advantage - Prior experience in developing and
implementing quality control and learning systems for complex development
programmes; - Experience of working across geographical
and organization boundaries, across cultures & diverse development
stakeholders. - Excellent oral and written communication
skills in English; - Flexibility regarding assigned work hours
and location - Previous experience of working in East
Africa and knowledge of local cultures is desired - Experience in writing proposals;
- Ability to work calmly under pressure to
beat deadlines while maintain quality. - Excellent written & oral communication
skills in a multicultural environment. - Excellent rapport building, networking and
relationship management experience - Ability to facilitate, maintain and manage
goo d working relationships internally & externally - Good team player, flexible and capable of
working with a multinational country team; - Appreciation of and sensitivity to local
culture, - Ability to set priorities between
competing demands for resources, - Manage own tasks and priorities
effectively and with minimal supervision.
