the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the
elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to
facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
Responsibilities:
- The
incumbent will design programs for verification and monitoring of volume
and flow measuring equipment. - Prosecute
offenders for violation of Legal Metrology legislation - Prepare
draft legislations and/or review existing legislations for control
of product stock and custody transfer measurements. - The
incumbent will also implement programs designed for control of supervised
bodies in line with UNBS guidelines - Offer
technical support to field staff including actual verification of complex
equipment in line with departmental policies and procedures - Carry
out Pattern Approvals of class D and G as per the set standard operating
procedures - Approve
the testing equipment and standards of the authorized test laboratories
that verify compliance of measuring instrument all over the
country. - Offer technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and all
stakeholders in line with verification requirements. - Supervise,
monitor and mentor staff in the Division to ensure that they handle their
assignments professionally and follow the inspectors code of
conduct as they execute their roles - Develop
and monitor the implementation of the annual, quarterly and monthly
budget, work plans and targets of all activities to be undertaken
within the Division - Monitor
measurement traceability of working standards in line with departmental
policies and procedures - Prepare
and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Experience:
- The applicant for the UNBS Principal Legal
Metrologist- Volume and Flow job opportunity should hold a Masters’ degree in Science or any
other related field from a recognized University/Institute - Honours
degree in physics, engineering and any other related field. - At
least eight years of related work experience - Certificate
in Investigations and prosecution - Computer
literacy skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
Internet applications - High level of integrity and
professionalism - Excellent communication skills
- Good teamwork and analytical skills and
needs to be a - Good team player
- Excellent communicator with good oral
communication and presentation skills. - Age: Between 30 and 45 years
