the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives mandated to coordinate the
elaboration of standards and quality of products and services so as to
facilitate fair trade, promote local industries and protect consumers.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate
and monitor the implementation of Pre-package Control programs. - Keenly
monitor measurement traceability of working standards in line with
departmental policies and procedures - Sensitize
Manufacturers and Importers concerning pre-package requirements in line
with set standards and guidelines - Prepare
draft legislations and/or review existing legislations for control of
prepackaged goods. - Prosecute
offenders under the weights and measures Act. - Develop
and maintain data base for the samples tested in line with departmental policies
and procedures - Provide
technical support to field staff, supervise, monitor and mentor staff in
the Division to ensure that they handle their assignments
professionally and follow the inspectors code of conduct as they execute
their roles - Render
technical support, sensitization and guidance to traders and all
stakeholders in line with prepackage control requirements. - Develop
and monitor the implementation of the annual, quarterly and monthly
budget, work plans and targets of all activities to be undertaken within
the Division - Prepare
and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Experience:
- The applicant for the UNBS Principal Legal
Metrologist- Prepackage Control career placement should hold a Masters’ degree in Science or
any other related field from a recognized University/Institute - Also, the applicant must hold an honours degree in physics, engineering and any other related
field. - At
least eight years’ experience - Hold
a certificate in Investigations and prosecution - Computer
literacy skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the
Internet applications - High level of integrity and
professionalism - Excellent communication skills
- Good teamwork and analytical skills and
needs to be a - Good team player
- Excellent communicator with good oral
communication and presentation skills. - Age: Between 30 and 45 years
