Bicycles Against Poverty (BAP) is a social enterprise that distributes
lease-to-own bicycles in rural Uganda. Bicycles in East Africa connect farmers
to markets and other basic life needs, including clean water, schools, and
healthcare. Such access leads to a 35% increase in income. We’re currently
broadening our focus to other asset-financing products for rural African
communities. We believe strongly in the potential of rural communities and are
committed to delivering the products they need in a form that’s affordable to
them. To date we’ve disbursed close to 2,000 bicycle loans. In the coming year
we’ll be piloting other asset-financing products to introduce to our customers.

Job Summary: The Operations
Director will oversee BAP’s operations and personnel, including the marketing
department, special project management, HR, and strategic planning. The
Operations Director is a key leadership position that works closely with BAP’s
entire team, including BAP’s CEO. It is specifically focused on managing BAP’s
team as well as leading the company’s marketing department. As a young and
growing business, we’re looking for leaders to help us establish the structure
that’s necessary to thrive.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
Management and Human Resources:
- Managing the team as a whole to ensure
smooth operations - Ensuring that the right team structure and
processes are in place - Overseeing the recruiting and hiring of
marketing, credit and support staff - Drafting contracts for all positions
- Refining and designing processes to
onboard, retain, and reward staff - Providing mentoring and coaching to staff
to facilitate a career path, while simultaneously working with staff to
ensure they reach their personal goals, outside of work. - Tasked with designing team building
activities and generally ensuring high team morale
Leadership:
- Working directly with BAP’s CEO to
formulate strategic plans on yearly and quarterly basis. - Developing and maintaining relationship
with pipeline partners, government officials, and other key stakeholders - Budgeting and Resource Management
Marketing Department Oversight:
- Oversee growing team of Relationship
Officers - Brainstorm and implement marketing
strategies - Ensure proper marketing and sales policies
and procedures are in place - Traveling to field approximately 2-4 times
per month.
Special Project Management:
- Improving operational systems, processes,
and policies - Overseeing research and product
development for new items to add to BAP’s portfolio
Logistics:
- Ensuring efficiency and clear record
keeping within supply chain - Building and maintaining relationship with
suppliers of BAP products - General backstopping to programs
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Operations
Director job vacancy must hold a Bachelor’s Degree - At least five to seven years of professional
experience - A minimum of two to three years of management
experience - Marketing and sales experience
- Preference given to those administering
sales in a risk management role - Previous experience working in
multicultural settings with global staff - High business acumen
- Previous exposure and experience in
establishing structure in a new work environment - Flexible and nontraditional, but likes
creating structure - Strong computer skills and ability to
learn new software quickly - The incumbent must be a flexible
individual who likes creating structure.
