(DOS) /PEPFAR, and Nike Foundation.
About Nike Foundation GIRL
Program:
In 2015, Mercy Corps was awarded a livelihoods focused 3-year Nike
Foundation program working in the Karamoja (Uganda) and West Pokot and Turkana
(Kenya) regions. The project, called Girls Improving Resilience with Livestock
(GIRL) aims to empower pastoralist girls in the Karamoja region to improve
their livelihoods and personal agency, as well as increase the food security
and adaptive capacity of their households and the resilience of their communities..
Job Summary: The GIRL Team
Leader will be responsible for the day-to-day activities in the Moroto office,
providing leadership to the GIRL team and helping streamline activities across
other Moroto based teams. Working with the GIRL Program Coordinator, the GIRL
Team Leader will draft work plans, procurement plans, coordinate logistics and
ensure activities meet deadlines. Responsibilities include day to day
administration and team capacity building activities including strengthening
organizational skills, planning and Monitoring & Evaluation skills. The
GIRL Team Leader will be responsible for all Monitoring and Evaluation
activities including data collection and analysis. Working alongside the
Program Coordinator the GIRL Team Leader will provide valuable input on
quarterly lessons learned, program learning questions and annual reports.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
Program Management:
  • With support from the Program Coordinator,
    draft quarterly work plans, procurement plans and budget projections
  • Act as the point person for daily
    administrative work including coordinating purchase requests and logistics
  • Send draft weekly reports to Program
    Coordinator to ensure regional coordination
  • Provide leadership to GIRL team to ensure
    program activities are reaching targets and are high quality
  • Attend monthly coordination meetings with
    Moroto Program Managers to ensure coordination across Mercy Corps’
    programs
Monitoring and Evaluation:
  • Carry out M&E activities to ensure
    compliance with GIRL MEL Plan
  • Enter and analyse program data and provide
    reports to Program Coordinator
  • Work in close partnership with regional
    M&E officers to ensure synthesis of lessons learned and coordinated
    drafting of annual reports
  • Maintain an up-to-date database that
    reflects progress (including disaggregated beneficiary counts) and donor
    indicators
  • Build the capacity of all relevant team
    members to develop and maintain an excellent M&E system, and
    facilitate periodic reflection and analysis of program monitoring
    information that feeds into programming and learning.
  • Participate in on-going M&E training
    and support for all Mercy Corps programs and partnering private sector
    staff
  • Visit sites and partners to collect
    supplementary data, stories and conduct qualitative research both independently
    and in teams
  • Mercy Corps team members are expected to
    support all efforts towards accountability, specifically to our
    beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief
    and development work while actively engaging beneficiary communities as
    equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field
    projects.
  • As part of Mercy Corps’ agency-wide
    Organizational Learning Initiative, all team members are responsible for
    spending 5% of their work time in formal and/or non-formal professional
    learning activities.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the Mercy Corps
    GIRL Team Leader career opportunity should preferably hold a bachelor’s
    degree in Economics, Agriculture, Demography, Statistics, Business
    administration or relevant field. MA preferred
  • A minimum of four years of program
    monitoring and evaluation experience with 1+ years of supervisory
    experience
  • Previous exposure and experience in
    program management, planning and process development
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    M&E concepts and demonstrate skills in monitoring and evaluation,
    project cycle, results chain and frameworks, participatory monitoring
  • Ability to train, mentor and support other
    staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and
    supportive manner;
  • Positive and professional attitude, able
    to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work
    overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and
    maintain attention to detail;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
    essential;
  • Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in
    Microsoft Excel and at least one data management software including Ms
    Access, SPSS, STATA
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
    required
  • Fluency in local languages desired –
    Pokoot, Turkana, Karamojong
