Hunger (ACF)
over thirty years, ACF has been
implementing Food Security and Livelihoods, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene programs in the Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja regions in
Uganda.
Assistant will support the public health and assessment activities of the
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene team.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit and train Hygiene Promoters for
communities where ACF executes its WASH programs. - Develop and provide tools and other
construction equipment ensuring that are regularly maintained and are in
good working condition. - Keenly review and verify all reports and
data submitted to ACF by Hygiene Promoters are accurate and complete. - Ensure all team members have the knowledge
and resources for field based educational work - Manage the distribution of all WASH
kits - Review monthly stock reports to keep track
of consumable material use and advise Programme Manager on any large
orders that will need to be made (equipment or consumable materials) - Ensure all material and equipment orders
are placed on time and that deliveries are of the right quantity. - Ensure localization of all software
activities in the community
trainings:
- Ensure all community based management
committees are adequately trained according to ACF guidelines - Help resolve conflicts that may arise
within target communities - Ensure all trainings are adequately
documented (e.g. names of trainees) and reports are submitted. - Formulate and train Water Source and
Sanitation Committees (WSSCs) for all new water points constructed or
rehabilitated by ACF. - Train School Management structures and
school Health Clubs on hygiene
promotion - Formulate and train Sanitation Committees
(SCs) for all new institutional latrines constructed or rehabilitated by
ACF. - Regularly monitor the construction of soak
pits and bamboo fencing by beneficiary communities at newly constructed or
rehabilitated boreholes.
- Support the PM and WASH officer with the
design and conducting all baseline assessments, KAP surveys, and follow-up
assessment to understand the impacts of AAH programs with relation to
behaviour change and health based indicators. - Offer technical assistance to the PM and WASH Officer with design and conduct
all baseline assessments, KAP surveys, and follow-up assessments - Build and develop a databank for all
assessment data is kept organized in an accessible manner - Make recommendations for hardware activity
locations based on assessment results - Support the Programme Manager by producing
written reports for all assessment activities for submissions.

accomplishments, and challenges
- Provide and share weekly plan in
consultations with with the WASH Officer
- Develop and provide the WASH Officer with
with written draft monthly plan in coordination with all teams - Review and update all training and
educations materials as necessary - Organize regular monitoring and evaluation
exercises to ensure high quality of work - Provide suggestions to improve programme
quality and implementation
- Represent ACF to District, UNHCR,
communities and local leaders. - Ensure all teams share relevant
information

Experience:
- The applicant for the Action Against
Hunger ACF WASH Assistant job opportunity should preferably hold a
Diploma/Degree Preferably in Social works, public Health, Community
Development or related field from a recognised university. - At least two years’ experience in
environmental sanitation, educational programs is desired. - Extensive knowledge and experience with
PHAST, CHAST, CLTS training tools will be an added advantage. - Basic knowledge of water and sanitation
technical issues preferred - Good computer skills, Excel and PM
assistant MS Word, Ms Excel, Word, Power Point, Arc GIS, Access Excel,
internet, and email are a must) - Riding Skills with a valid riding permit
is desired - Excellent capacity to organize and
mobilise the community with ability to make decisions with little
supervision. - The ideal candidate must be a resident or
willing to reside in Yumbe - Excellent communication skills (written
and oral); English and Local dialect (Kakwa, Kuku, Juba Arabic, Lugbara,
Pojulu, Madi ) is required
