About FOWODE:
Forum for Women in Democracy is a non-partisan Women’s rights
organization operating in Uganda with its head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew
out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 – 1995 Constituency Assembly (CA) that
debated and passed the 1995 Constitution. The organization’s mission is to
promote gender equality in all areas of decision making through Capacity
Development, Community Empowerment, Policy Engagement and Strategic
Partnerships.
Job Summary: The Accounts
Assistant will be part of the team responsible for maintaining an efficient and
accurate Accounting function.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • The incumbent will receive and process all
    requests for payment and ensure compliance with set guidelines and
    budgetary procedures.
  • Verify accountabilities, reconcile
    transactions and financial data and post them in the automated accounting
    system.
  • Provide support in the compilation and
    analysis of financial information to prepare financial statements
    including monthly, quarterly and annual accounts; and donor reports
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in
    compliance with accepted policies and procedures and donor requirements
  • Maintain an up-to-date assets register
  • The jobholder will be tasked with managing
    daily petty cash
  • Provide support in the preparation for
    financial audit and in the audit process
  • Tasked with stores management
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should at least hold a
    diploma in Accounting and Finance. Possession of a degree in Accounting
    and Finance will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the
    use of financial systems and preparation of budgets and financial reports.
  • Previous exposure and experience working
    with a nongovernmental organization will also be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping
    terminology and practices; automated accounting systems (QuickBooks);
  • Computer literacy i.e. good knowledge of
    computer usage including Microsoft and Excel skills
  • Ability to compare data from a variety of
    sources for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to understand and apply accounting
    guidelines, system updates and revisions, and policy changes
  • Ability to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Keen attention to detail
