established in accordance with the Electricity Act, 1999 (Chapter 145, Laws of
Uganda). The Act empowers ERA to regulate the Generation, Transmission, Sale,
Export, Import-and Distribution of electrical energy in Uganda.
Environmental Officer will ensure licensees compliance with environmental and
social requirements in accordance with national and applicable international environmental
standards. The incumbent will support the Environmental Specialist in
mainstreaming environmental and social development concerns, supervision and
monitoring of environmental and social management activities of Electricity
Regulatory Authority.
Responsibilities:
- Keenly analyse applications for licenses
& investments for environmental compliance. - Supervise the implementation of
environmental and social mitigation measures for projects under
construction - Regularly analyse environmental monitoring
reports received from licensees under generation, transmission and
distribution - Keenly monitor and inspect licensed
electrical installations for environmental compliance - Enforce compliance with approved
Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), mitigation measures and certificate
of EIA approval issued by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) - Actively participate actively in research
activities of the Unit and Department - Perform any other official duties as may
be assigned.
Experience:
- The ideal applicant for the Electricity
Regulatory Authority (ERA) Environmental Officer job opportunity must hold
an upper second or first class degree in Environmental Sciences - At least three years relevant professional
experience - Significant exposure and experience in
environmental impact assessment procedures and environmental audit
procedures - Demonstrate requisite experience in
supervision and monitoring of environmental and social development
concerns of projects in a reputable organization - Age: Between 25 – 32 years
