prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. We work with local people
affected by conflict to improve their safety and sense of security. We do this
by supporting effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and
policy development, and through supporting the actions of others. We have a
strong thematic focus to our conflict prevention work prioritising: people’s
security and access to justice services; gender norms that cause and perpetuate
violent conflict; the impact of external conflict drivers including weapons
flows; conflict-sensitive political, economic, development, and security engagement;
and inclusive and accountable governance and peacebuilding processes.
implement programmes funded under the Government of the Netherlands Addressing
the Root Causes of Conflict (ARC) instrument in both East Africa and Pakistan.
Saferworld is committed to learning and adaptive programming, and to sharing
that learning widely, and the ARC Learning Manager will play an instrumental
part in achieving this. The ARC Fund has a common results framework, and each
programme has its own framework that feeds into this. Saferworld has committed
to annual assessments of progress, to sharing its knowledge and learning with
other ARC grantees, and to disseminating this through its management of the
Dutch Knowledge Platform on Security and Rule of Law (KPSLW).
Root Causes of Conflict (ARC) programmes will stimulate greater understanding
and debate about people-focused security and justice work and to demonstrate
how this approach can make a difference to the lives of people most affected by
conflict and insecurity, reduce their levels of fear, and point the way to
policy changes that will improve state-society relations. There will be a
significant emphasis on learning from programming designed to challenge the
gender norms that generate insecurity and conflict. The incumbent will take lead in the development and implementation
of a learning strategy across the ARC programmes that supports a
cross-organisational agenda and links to programmes and policy staff throughout
the organisation. This will include consulting on the design and planning of a
five-year programme of work with key staff, coordination of learning activities
and outputs, management of a MEL budget-line, and creating and sustaining
effective relationships with relevant internal and external actors. The main
focus of the role will be the ARC projects in East Africa in liaison with
colleagues in Pakistan.
