non-profit, co-educational day school, established in 1967, offering an
international education program for students 3 to 19 years old. Enrollment is
approximately 540 students representing over 60 different nations, creating a
culturally dynamic and synergistic student body with many languages and
customs.
Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring that the finances of the school
are managed in an effective, efficient and ethical fashion to help meet the
strategic goals of the school. The Business Manager is a member of the
Executive Management Team.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that International School of Uganda
is provided with sound financial leadership and that the finances of the
school are managed in an effective, efficient and ethical fashion. - Take part in Board Meetings, Finance
Committee Meetings, Executive Management team meetings and others as
necessary to ensure realistic financial planning at all levels in the
organization. - Ensure that adequate financial control
systems are in place and that they are achieving their purpose of ensuring
accountability and availability of information (e.g. monthly, quarterly
and annual reports; regular spot checks and formal audits) - Manage the maintenance of the database of
student school fees, capital levy, bus and any other charges;
co-ordinating with the Accountant, Registrar and Transport Manager to
ensure accuracy and completeness - Establishing and maintaining standard
operating procedures to ensure that all payments owed by the school are
settled and accounted for in a timely manner (including payment of wages
and benefits to staff; management of petty cash; procurement; payments to
URA etc.) - Ensuring the school’s compliance with
applicable Ugandan laws and regulations pertaining to payroll taxes, NSSF
and labour laws; liaising with attorneys on legal matters when necessary - Work closely with donors (e.g. the US
Government grant), drawing up project proposals and ensuring that any
donor-required reporting procedures are adhered to. - Providing support to lead the financial
planning of the school’s resources by researching and presenting to the
Head of School options to maximize the school’s savings while not putting
them at risk
Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Undergraduate
degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or related field. Post graduate
Accounting / Finance Qualification e.g. CPA, ACCA is required. - At least ten years’ experience in
Financial Management, Accounting or relevant area; five or which must be
in a senior supervisory/managerial capacity. - Previous exposure and experience working
in an international school setting is preferred. - Experience and/or understanding of
educational programs. - Extensive knowledge of Ugandan tax laws
and financial regulatory framework. - Demonstrated success in financial
management. - Excellent written and verbal communication
skills - Previous exposure and experience to work
independently and act ethically. - Strong work ethic based on proactive
planning and personal responsibility. - Excellent organizational skills and
ability to supervise and train others.
