Mandela National Stadium Limited often referred to as Namboole Stadium
is a multi-purpose stadium in Kampala, Uganda. It is currently used mostly for
football matches, although other sports are also practiced. Mandela National
Stadium Limited was incorporated as a company in 1999 and it’s fully owned by
both the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and the
Ministry of Education and Sports.
Job Summary: The Business
Development & Marketing Manager will be tasked with the improvement of the
stadium’s market position and achieve financial growth. The person defines
long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships,
identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business and maintains
extensive knowledge of current market conditions. It is his/her job to increase
sales opportunities and thereby maximize revenue for the stadium. To achieve
this, She/he needs to find potential new customers, present to them, ultimately
convert them into clients, and continue to grow business in the future. The
Business Development Manager will also help manage existing clients and ensure
they stay satisfied and positive.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:  
  • Taking the lead in driving and
    implementing research activities (competitor analysis, benchmarking,
    market intelligence, feasibility studies) of the industry and market to
    ensure that the stadium’s product and service performance is monitored in
    an ongoing basis and research is accurate so as to improve product and
    service development;
  • The jobholder will prospect for new
    clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of
    generating interest from potential clients;
  • The incumbent will formulate, marketing
    plan and implement marketing strategy, including appropriate advertising
    campaigns and public relations 
    activities to ensure optimal and profitable use of MNSL’s
    facilities;
  • Responsible for developing, promoting,
    implementing and monitoring MNSL’s corporate image and reputation through
    suitable PR and Marketing initiatives;
  • Manage the sales and marketing
    resources  according to agreed  budgets 
    as well as  relevant
    reporting  of management  and financial  information  for the marketing  department e.g.  marketing activity report;
  • Carry out demographic  and other marketing  studies to identify  trends that  will maximize  effectiveness of marketing  efforts, research  and evaluate marketing  strategies  to identify  potential  events and services;
  • Actively contribute to overall policy
    formulation and recommend appropriate policies regarding pricing,  promotion and marketing  plans;
  • Manage and lead the marketing department
    to ensure that all staff within the department is fully supported in
    delivering their key targets and objectives.
  • Participate in the recruitment as well as
    manage, train and motivate direct reporting staff according to company
    procedures and policy
  • Developing marketing content and key
    messages which communicate core objectives, mission, vision and values of
    the stadium. In addition, ensuring that the relevant content is developed
    for the platforms from which products and services are sold and marketed
    including (website, television, radio and publications)
  • Plan and manage international
    communication and awareness of MNSL’s corporate direction,  mission, 
    aims and objectives
  • Perform any other tasks/duties that may be
    assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold
    a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing bias)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business
    Administration (Marketing bias) or Marketing and professional
    qualification in Marketing (CIMA).
  • At least six years’ experience, three (3)
    which should have been at similar level in a busy institution. 
  • Highly self-driven, result  oriented 
    with a positive outlook  and
    a clear  focus on high quality and business
    profitability
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the
    principles of marketing  and
    advertising  cost
    –effectiveness  including market
    targeting, officer development, sales pitches,  networking, etc.
  • Excellent communication Skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Team work
  • A team worker
  • Technology Skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office computer
    applications
  • Planning and Organizing
  • Formulate, plan and implement marketing
    strategy
  • Highly reliable, sufficient, mobile and
    flexible to travel  as may be
    required  by the nature of the job;
  • Mature, credible and comfortable  dealing with senior executives and
    government officials
  • Honesty, integrity and a strong sense of
    ethics
