About Us:
DSW (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevoelkerung) is an international
development and advocacy organisation with headquarters in Hannover, offices in
Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and liaison offices in Berlin and
Brussels. In addition, we are working in partnership with sub-grantees in
Burkina Faso, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, India, Indonesia,
Nepal, and Pakistan.
Job Summary: The Advocacy
Officer will render support to programme-related fundraising, project
implementation, reporting and capacity building initiatives.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
  • Coordinate and implement Country Office
    (CO) Advocacy strategy
  • Offer technical support, backstopping and
    relevant resources about the latest developments in the field of Advocacy
    for Health to the CO
  • Provide support in resource mobilisation
    efforts to ensure funds for advocacy programmes are available
  • Represents DSW overall perspectives and
    interests to external and internal stakeholders
  • Actively participate in advocacy events/
    activities at various levels these include civic education activities,
    budget processes as well as meetings with decision/ policy makers to name
    but a few.
  • Participate in internal trainings for
    advocacy in addition to involvement in provision of technical assistance
    to partners.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree
    in social sciences, development studies or related field.
  • At least three years of relevant
    experience in working with a non for profit organisations
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of
    Sexual and Reproductive Health issues globally and in Uganda
  • Practical experience in policy advocacy
  • Knowledgeable of policy frameworks related
    to health in Uganda
  • Working knowledgeable of decision making
    structures/levels both at local government and central government
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently under
    minimal supervision
  • Excellent
    communication skills and fluent in English language both spoken and
    written
