(Grants & Contracts)
organization which is a partnership of infectious diseases and public health
specialists. The overall objective of the IDI is to strengthen health systems
with strong emphasis on Infectious Diseases, through Research and Capacity
Development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve
its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory
services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University – John
Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.
Manager (GM) (Grants & Contracts) will mainly support the management of
active grants including communication with IDI management and multiple grant
stakeholders (including sub-grantees) as well as supporting programmatic and
financial monitoring and reporting for funded activities and programs. S/he
will be the first point of reference for all financial and administrative
issues related to specific grants.
Responsibilities:
- Finance Support and Reporting:
- Establishing and
communicating financial management and administrative guidelines for
specific major grants; - Responsible for enforcing
relevant IDI and/or funder-specific policies and procedures; - Tasked with determining
appropriate financial reporting needs and coordinating the reporting and
billing process for specific grants with the Finance department; - Responsible for preparing
financial reports to meet specific funders’ requirements; communicating
related information to internal and external stakeholders; - In charge iof ensuring that
all financial and administrative records for assigned grants is well
maintained and filed appropriately within the IDI filing structure - Project Financial Performance
Monitoring and Reporting: - Tasked with reviewing and
approving transactions for specific assigned projects to ensure funder
and institutional compliance; - In charge of monitoring
financial performance (including budget performance, variance, bum rate
and cost recovery) for assigned projects in order to achieve project and
institutional objectives; - Responsible for communicating
with and reporting to internal and external project stakeholders
including project managers and funders. - Compliance & Assurance:
- Ensuring that all aspects of
project planning and execution comply with the applicable funder and
national regulations and with best practice; - Maintaining, filing and
making available compliance requirements for specific grants for staff,
management and stakeholders’ use; - Training & Capacity Building:
Identifying staff and partner training and capacity building needs related
to specific grants and facilitating formal and informal training sessions. - Supervision: Direct and
indirect supervision of other Grants staff including Senior Officers,
Officers and others - General: Any other duties
specified by the IDI Head of Strategic Planning & Development.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate should preferably hold
a Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field, including but not limited to
finance, accounting/ audit and business management; Master’s degree and/or
professional qualification would be added advantages. - At least
three years’ experience in grants management and management of
donor relations (preferably in the health sector) - Demonstrated ability to interact
effectively with colleagues of various backgrounds; - Excellent organizational skills, including
the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment - Exceptional communication skills;
excellent written and oral English - Skills and experience in budget
preparation and fiscal management - Advanced analytical, evaluative, and
objective critical thinking skills - Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in computer systems especially
in using Microsoft applications; high level of skill in using MS-Excel;
desktop publishing experience is desirable - Familiarity with MS-Navision software is
preferred but not required
