About Harvest Plus Project:
World Vision Uganda in
partnership with HarvestPlus will be implementing a five year Project called
Meals for Nutrition in Uganda (MENU). The project is intended to commercialise
pro-vitamin A (orange) sweet potato and high iron beans to farmers in selected
regions of the country.

Job Summary: The Community
Development Officer – Market Extension Worker will be responsible for marketing
of biofortified crops among the beneficiary households within specified
locations. This will include training farmers in market oriented production
practices and emphasising quality in the production process. Secondly, the
holder will interface and train traders in the best practices intended to
increase sales including; post harvest management, record keeping and creating
awareness about the nutritional benefits of biofortified crops with emphasis on
the orange sweet potato and iron rich beans. The position requires strong
interpersonal skills and ability to create linkages between smallholder farmers
and traders/ markets. The incumbent will report to the Project Manager, and
work as part of a larger implementation team in marketing biofortified crops
and fostering adoption among beneficiary households in several districts of
Uganda.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Collect data and conduct data analysis on
    the impact of farming methods among participating farmers.
  • The incumbent will promote market oriented
    farming for biofortified crops.
  • Facilitate farmer trainings through result
    and method demonstrations.
  • Act as the focal person on crop production
    and marketing in the area of operation.
  • Conduct business to business meeting
    between smallholder farmers and traders.
  • The incumbent will facilitate seed fairs
    in respective communities.
  • Create and estimate demand for
    biofortified crop in areas of operation and beyond.
  • Conduct farmer training in post harvest
    handling and other related aspects in the value chain for biofortified
    crops.
  • Identify and support Market Link Farmers
    (MLF) in communities.
  • Identify and mentor marketing groups to
    upscale biofortified crops production and aggregation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to
    HarvestPlus.
  • Significantly contribute to effective team
    management and supervision of farmer groups.
  • Work closely with internal counterparts to
    ensure effective collaboration, monitor on-going projects.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned
    by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the World Vision Community
    Development Officer – Market Extension Worker job opportunity must hold a
    Diploma in agriculture or its equivalent. Degree in Agriculture with
    relevant experience desirable
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in
    agriculture, agri-business, agriculture extension, or agricultural related
    livelihoods.
  • Previous experience with implementing
    agriculture or livelihood projects with a component of nutrition and
    farming as a business is an added advantage.
  • Ability to ride a Motor Cycle with a valid
    riding permit.
  • Previous experience of community
    mobilisation and facilitation, in addition to willingness to reside within
    the parish/sub-county of assignment.
  • Show commitment to implementing WV’s
    vision and mission at all levels and in all aspects of the project.
  • Relevant teamwork experience and good
    interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work sensitively with people from a variety
    of social backgrounds
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of the
    orange sweet potato and iron beans production system using the Harvest
    Plus models is an asset.
  • Willingness to work and live in rural
    setting.
