About UNHCR:
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was
established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly.
UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute of the Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees is to lead and co-ordinate action for international
protection to refugees; seek permanent solutions for the problems of refugees
and safeguard refugee rights and well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate
concerning issues of statelessness, as it is given a designated role under
Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Conduct regular assessment of the needs of
    protection and assistance for refugee and displaced children.
  • Ensure better monitoring of Emergency
    Nutrition Assessment (ENA)/ ES in collaboration with partners of UNHCR,
    UNICEF and the ICRC.
  • Ensure that information about the military
    recruitment of children are regularly collected and conduct activities to
    minimize the phenomenon in collaboration with other partners.
  • Keenly monitor and regularly update the
    Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) cases in which children refugees
    and IDPs are involved.
  • Maintain and strengthen the protection
    mechanism of the child based on the community through the Community Network
    for Child Protection (SCS).
  • Maintain a network of child protection in
    collaboration with other stakeholders in particular UNICEF, ICRC and local
    authorities either as part of a special working group on child protection,
    or as part of the cluster under child protection for IDPs.
  • Regularly monitor the security situation
    of children in refugee camps and IDP sites and respond appropriately to
    local authorities and the DIS.
  • Perform any other duties as required
Key Performance Indicators: The
protection needs of children in refugee and IDP population are known and are
met through timely and coordinated action by UNHCR and partners
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNHCR Protection
Associate (Child Protection) job placement should have secondary education with
post-secondary training/ certificate in relevant fields
