Maintenance Engineer
(MRC/UVRI) based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe is a
bilateral multi-disciplinary research organization funded by, the Medical
Research Council (UK) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in
Uganda under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and
other donor agencies. Established in 1988, the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on
AIDS is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research on HIV
infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the revolving
epidemic, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and
prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and
worldwide.
Administrator-Estates will ensure that all estates projects undertaken are well
contracted, properly documented and executed in a timely manner appropriately
with value for money considerations. This includes timely reporting on projects
progress and reviewing any challenges with section heads to ensure proper
utilisation and quality outputs for the unit. The jobholder will also
proactively intervene in projects in order to ensure that targets or gateways
within projects are successfully achieved. The incumbent will ensure that
project programmes are adhered to.
Responsibilities:
- The jobholder will maintain an up-to-date
projects’ register and advise management on the progress of on-going
projects - Make the case for the allocation of
resources for each project ensuring value for money realisation of project
goals - Act as the liaison between contractors,
process owners and management - Identify individual project tasks which
are subsidiary to the main project/programme but without the successful
completion of which the main works will either not be able to proceed or
will be delayed. Liaise with all parties to ensure that project tasks are
completed on time and on budget in order to allow the main works to
proceed unhindered - Set up and get approvals for efficient
communication lines between stakeholders - Organize and schedule project meetings
- Actively participate in project
procurement, initiation, implementation and closure processes - Have for each project, a clear understanding
of the issues: risks and mitigating factors; and guide management as
required/Maintain an up-to-date risk register. - Provide information required for project
evaluation processes - Identify and implement approved continuous
improvement initiatives in the section
Experience:
- The
applicant for the Projects Administrator-Estates job opportunity
should hold a BSc(Eng.),
Construction Management, HND in Civil Engineering with a proven track
record or demonstrable experience as site agent - A minimum of five years of experience in a
similar position. - Good working knowledge/qualifications in
construction management or estates/facilities management. - Broad knowledge and understanding of
project management principles such as stakeholder management, planning and
control of schedule, duration and cost; communication and reporting. - Proven project management skills across
multiple projects - Excellent oral and written communication
skills. - Experience in installations and
maintenance of solar power is desirable
