Product of Prison (POP) is a small Dutch non-profit organisation that
was founded in the beginning of 2011. POP’s mission is to assist prisoners in
Uganda with their successful rehabilitation and reintegration by giving them
the skills and opportunities necessary to rebuild their lives and to return to
their communities.
Job Summary:  The Project Coordinator will support
Product of Prison (POP) in implementing and monitoring project activities in
Kampala and Jinja.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Coordinate and supervise the development
    and implementation of project activities in Kampala and Jinja and assist
    with projects in Gulu, Lira and other areas of Uganda;
  • Prepare project plans, including project
    scope, goals, timelines and deliverables, and associated communications
    documents;
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of
    projects needed to achieve project goals, including acquisition of
    materials, coordination of training, overseeing the production of
    high-quality products by project participants, quality control, and
    delivery of products;
  • Build, develop and maintain relationships
    with project participants, Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), partner
    organisations and suppliers;
  • Identify, build and manage relationships
    with clients in cooperation with the Business Development Manager and
    adhere to deadlines for product delivery;
  • Manage the financial administration of
    project activities;
  • Participate in fundraising and sales
    events and carry out other tasks where needed to promote
  • POP;
  • Ensure the safety and proper utilisation
    of project equipment, materials and other resources;
  • Prepare project participants for release,
    provide reintegration support to released participants and assist them
    with developing and realising long-term plans for successful
    reintegration;
  • Regularly monitor project success and
    progress, identify and resolve problem areas and (potential) risks and
    develop progress reports on a regular basis;
  • Work closely with the M&E officer to
    implement M&E activities;
  • Conduct a project evaluation to identify
    successful and unsuccessful project elements and develop an evaluation
    report with lessons learned, best practices and recommendations;
  • Prepare input for fundraising
    applications, donor reports, POP’s Annual Report and any other reports
    where required;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the
    Founding Director that may be reasonably requested.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold
    a relevant academic background (e.g. International Development Studies).
  • At least three years’ experience in the
    coordination of projects who would like to work within a small NGO to
    support prisoners.
  • Previous exposure and experience in
    project management and working with non-governmental organisations;
  • Clear and effective written and oral
    communication skills in English;
  • Self-motivated and able to work
    independently with minimal supervision;
  • Proficiency in computer programs,
    especially Microsoft Office;
  • Accurate, eye for detail and excellent
    organisational skills;
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexibility,
    adaptability and creativity to work in a challenging environment;
  • Broad knowledge and interest in supporting
    prisoners and former prisoners;
  • Ability to drive a motorcycle would be an
    advantage;
  • Comfortable with local and national travel
    by public transport.
