Uganda
and Communications Manager
protects the poor from violence throughout the developing world. International
Justice Mission partners with local authorities to rescue victims of violence,
bring criminals to justice, restore survivors, and strengthen justice
systems. The International Justice
Mission (IJM) Uganda is working to eliminate property grabbing in Uganda by
bringing rescue and restoration to individual victims, accountability to their
perpetrators, and transformation to the public justice system as a whole.
Communications Specialist will support the Casework and System Reform team as a
Volunteer Communications Specialist, working to bring substantive relief to
widows and orphans.
Responsibilities:
- The incumbent will receive calls and
respond to all telephone inquiries - Track and maintain a caller Data base
on established criteria.
- Support the Communications Specialist to
coordinate the IJM Kampala’s overall mass media and communications
strategy. - Adapt messaging for radio, newspaper and
other forms of media publication in liaison with supervisor. - Translate and contextualize messaging for
audiences of various educational levels. - Draft, design, translate and edit printed
materials for training, education, and awareness raising.
- Provide miscellaneous graphic and written
resources to members of the IJM team. - Cooperate with members of the Casework
team in developing stories about IJM cases. - Take part in IJM programs to develop
professionalism and Christian formation. - Assist in hosting guests, visitors, and
volunteers. - Perform other tasks as assigned
Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Mass communication, Human Rights or related
field - One year of experience in media relations
or related field. - Computer literate with proficiency in MS
Word, Outlook and Excel. - Experience with Adobe Suite (Illustrator,
Photoshop, InDesign) or similar program - Mature Christian faith as defined by the
Apostles’ Creed. - Passionate commitment to IJM’s mission and
values. - Professional in demeanor, appearance,
writing and oral communication. - Works well under stress with a sustained
positive attitude. - Exceptionally high level of honesty and
integrity. - Intelligent, organized, creative and
proactive problem solver. - Ability to cooperate effectively in a
multi-cultural environment. - Fluency in English and Luganda, with
excellent writing and speaking in both.
