About Us:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries established
an Agricultural Investment Unit under the Department of Agricultural Investment
and Enterprise Development. The major objective of the Unit is to assist in
coordinating and promoting agribusiness, with emphasis on value addition and
act as an initiative to link and create synergies between MAAIF (Public Policy
/ Regulation), the Private Sector and Development Partners on issues of
promoting agribusiness and value addition.
Job Summary: The Mechanical
Engineer will provide technical support services in the area of engineering to
the Agricultural Investment Unit
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Provide technical support in the design
    and procurement of agri-machinery for harvesting, cleaning, drying,
    polishing, storage, processing, packing after harvest of the crops to
    increase production system and to contribute to Ugandan agriculture and
    economy.
  • Regularly review of the suitability of
    agri-machineries such as cultivators, combines, tractors, polisher,
    milling facility, dust collecting facility and packing facility for cultivating
    of crops and processing of agricultural products.
  • Prepare contractor’s agri-machinery
    procurement plan, crop processing design and supervision of installation
    work.
  • The incumbent will calculate the capacity
    of pumping for the project site and determine the location of pumping
    station, pump type, and so forth.
  • Review of the pumping station plan to
    supply irrigation water to rural areas efficiently.
  • Keenly review basic specifications of
    mechanical equipment for each proposed project site.
  • Determine the quantity and diameter of
    pumps and the other equipment such as screen, crane and main pipe
    materials.
  • Assist priority possible candidates list
    of agri-machineries and pump and the transport, support and O & M
    tasks relevant to provided equipment.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Mechanical Engineer
    career opportunity should hold an Honors’ Bachelors of Science Degree in
    Mechanical Engineering or Bachelors’ degree in Science in Agricultural
    Engineering or a related field from a reputable University/ Institution.
  • The applicant must be a registered
    Engineer with Uganda Engineers Registration Board (UERB)
  • One year of experience in engineering in
    government or reputable Organization.
  • Computer/
    ICT skills;
  • Skills
    and experience in Procurement Management;
  • Highly
    computer literate and be proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent
    communication (both oral and written) skills;
  • Good
    organizational skills;
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and team work skills;
  • Good
    project management skills
  • Accountability;
  • Concern
    for quality and standards;
  • Good
    time management skills
  • Ethics
    and integrity;
  • Be
    proactive with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
