Job Summary: The Credit
Officer will provide support to the finance department of product facility
-UHMG, by ensuring timely collection of all credit sales.  This position requires a person who is
familiar and experienced with client accounts procedures, client ledgers and
reconciliations at all levels.  The
person should have the capacity to work under minimum supervision, follow procedures,
as well as undertake timely reporting, and resiliently work to fulfill the
organization’s goals, while upholding our Core Values.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Ensure compliance with UHMG’s credit
    policy
  • Control bad debts exposure and expenses
    through the direct management of credit terms on the company’s ledgers.
  • Credits check new customers and open new
    credit accounts ensuring the UHMG has all the relevant information on the
    debtor.
  • The jobholder will also ensure debts are
    paid in a timely manner.
  • Meet cash and debtor day targets set by
    UHMG.
  • Maintain accurate record of all chasing
    activity and provide a weekly performance report.
  • Handle disputed bills and negotiate to
    bring payment within the agreed terms.
  • Send out monthly client statements/letters
    as may be agreed from time to time.
  • Respond promptly and completely to both
    client and internal enquiries.
  • In charge of monitoring the accounts
    receivable portfolio for trends and warning signs.
  • Advise on the initiation of legal and
    other recovery actions against customers who delinquent.
  • Enforcing the “Stop list”
  • Obtain security interests where necessary
    e.g. Letters of credit or personal guarantees.
  • Ensuring an adequate allowance for
    doubtful accounts is kept by the company.
  • Work in liaison with the sales team to
    follow-up any outstanding debts
  • Liaise with the Finance Manager when
    working with Auditors during external audits.
  • Undertake any other duties as may be
    assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
  • The ideal candidate for the UHMG Credit
    Officer vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business-related
    discipline (Accounting/Marketing/Finance/Economics) with professional
    qualifications such as ACCA stage 2, CPA stage 2 as an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working
    in a credit related role.
  • Computer literacy with experience in the
    use of MS Office documents, Tally in data management and reporting.
  • The applicant should be; pleasant,
    energetic, flexible, and a dynamic team player.
  • Person of integrity, focused and
    innovative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal
    skills, able to relate with staff effectively and work with a
    multi-cultural team within the organization.
  • Excellent record keeping, report
    compilation skills.
  • A self-starter, able to multi-task and
    work with minimum, supervision. 
  • Ability to work under pressure with
    competing deadlines.
