Agricultural Investment and Enterprise Development
an Agricultural Investment Unit under the Department of Agricultural Investment
and Enterprise Development. The major objective of the Unit is to assist in
coordinating and promoting agribusiness, with emphasis on value addition and
act as an initiative to link and create synergies between MAAIF (Public Policy
/ Regulation), the Private Sector and Development Partners on issues of
promoting agribusiness and value addition.
Science and Agro-processing Specialist will offer technical support services in
harvesting, agro processing in order to improve food standards and promote
value addition.
Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance for harvesting, cleaning,
drying, polishing, storage, processing, packaging, etc. after harvest of
the crops to increase production system and to contribute to Ugandan
agriculture and economy. - The jobholder will design suitable
nutrient combinations and contents for agro commodities. - Guide the suitability of agri-machineries
for milling facility, dust collecting facility and packing facility for
cultivating of the crops and processing of agricultural products. - The incumbent will review of basic
agricultural commodity/food standards and specifications of various target
commodities. - Ensure agro processing and value addition
hygiene and quality standards are developed and maintained. - Prepare crop processing design and
supervision of food processing and value addition work.. - Keenly review the existing programs and
literature for agro processing and value addition. - Design capacity building programs for
various categories of stakeholders and develop training material/content
for agro processing and value addition. - Perform any other relevant tasks that may
be assigned.
Experience:
- The applicant for the Food Science and
Agro-processing Specialist job opportunity should hold an Honors’
Bachelors of Degree in Food Science and Technology or a related field from
a reputable University/ Institution. - Previous experience in a similar role, in
harvest or post-harvest handling will be an added advantage. - Highly computer literate and be proficient in Microsoft Office;
- Excellent
communication (both oral and written) skills; - Demonstrate
organizational skills; - Excellent
interpersonal and team work skills; - Highly
proactive with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
