Outcomes for Children and Youth in Central and Western Uganda
Coordinator
by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their
produce and develop small businesses that last. They have provided livestock,
seeds, training and ongoing support, to help over a million lives and their
families that live in abject poverty. The Send a Cow Group currently
constitutes Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA,
together with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.
and Youth in Central and Western Uganda over the next five years. The Project
will improve the health, nutrition, education and psychosocial wellbeing of
vulnerable populations, as well as reduce abuse, exploitation and neglect to a
minimum of 625,000 children and 101,500 households in 17 districts in central
and western Uganda. The Project is being
implemented by a consortium of partner consisting of CRS being the lead,
Futures Group, ANPPCAN, TPO and ACODEV.
Project Officer will provide leadership in the implementation of household
economic strengthening activities at District level using SILC as an entry
strategy for improving economic status of children, youth and their caregivers.
The incumbent will work with the Project Coordinator, Grant partner, other
staff and other stakeholders to scale up Savings and Internal Lending
Communities (SILC) and enhancing socio-economic and life skills activities for
youth and adolescent girls interventions as part of Sustainable outcomes program
standard operation procedure(SOP) for
economic strengthening at district level.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the SOCY Project
Coordinator in implementing the project activities as guided. - Work in close collaboration with CSOs
working on beneficiary enrolment, assessment and protection through formal
and informal structures at district level to ensure a comprehensive
response to the needs of the project beneficiaries. - Manage the integration of HES at district
level and provide timely and detailed positive feedback to improve
integration. - Mentor and build the capacity of Youth
Project Officers/Supervisors to integrate SILC into their development
activities and additives. - Responsible for the coordination of all
SILC and farmer enterprise activities at district level. - Build the capacity of field staff at
district level to organize enterprise oriented farmer organizations to a
level of providing demand driven services to their members. - Coordinate preparation of quarterly and
annual plans, budgets and reports for the component at district level. - Support SILC supervisors to facilitate and
coordinate implementation of farmer enterprise development and market
linkages at district level. - Provide input into recruitment and
orientation of new SILC staff as may be required. - Facilitate planning and review sessions
with partners to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules
at district level. - Participate in budget processes and
periodic budget reviews for partners’ SILC activities e.g. trainings and
field monitoring visits. - Participate in district level coordination
meetings and provide project updates and plans.
- Work in close collaboration with other
project staff and partners, work to identify capacity gaps with regards to
project activities in the district. - Design and support training for project
beneficiaries in workshops and group level. - Provide support project staff in their
efforts to train Field Agents and supervisors. - Build the capacity of project staff in
identifying and disseminating lessons learned and best practices. - Keep current data base for trainers in
respective training areas and other related project resources.
- Maintain the district level SILC MIS.
- Ensure district level staff is trained in
use and management of MIS. - Guide and support staff in their efforts
to collect and analyze data on a monthly basis. - Use and study information captured through
the SILC MIS, Production and Marketing to submit monthly and quarterly
trend analysis reports. - Work with the data capture clerk to clean
and upload data. - Any other duties assigned by your
supervisor.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the USAID SOCY
District Project Officer job opportunity should preferably hold a
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Agriculture or Business-related
subjects from a reputable university. - Possession of a post graduate
qualification is an added advantage. - A minimum of three years’ experience in
community development including savings-led micro-finance models (e.g.
Village Savings and Loans Associations – VSLA; Savings for Change,
CO-SAVE, SILC, etc), Producer Business Associations, Area Cooperative
Enterprises (ACE) and management of OVC projects in a rural setting. - Honesty
- Self-drive
- Leadership/Management skills
- Good team player
- Thematic knowledge of Micro-finance
- Excellent communication and written skills
- Computer proficiency
