About US:
M-KOPA Solar is the global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for
off-grid customers. Since its commercial launch in October 2012, M-KOPA has
connected more than 200,000 homes in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar power,
and is now adding over 500 new homes each day. The success of M-KOPA (M=
mobile, KOPA= to borrow) stems from making solar products affordable to
low-income households on a pay-per-use installment plan. Customers acquire
solar systems for a small deposit and then purchase daily usage “credits” for
US $0.45, or less than the price of traditional kerosene lighting. After one
year of payments customers own their solar systems outright and can upgrade to
more power.
Job Summary: The Senior
Procurement Officer will provide a proficient compliant procurement process
which realizes value for money, stakeholder satisfaction and deliver outcomes
and objectives as agreed within the Service Plan.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:   
  • Evaluate and develop improvements in
    vendor sourcing strategies and guidelines including influencing the
    design, reform and implementation
  • Champion timely delivery of quality
    equipment and stationary products at the lowest possible cost in line with
    applicable procurement guidelines
  • Actively participate in the selection of
    suppliers based on due diligence criteria and carry out periodic review of
    supplier services taking into account the economy and efficiency of
    procurement
  • Oversee cycle counts of materials procured
    and stored at the warehouse and verification of quantification of orders
    delivered to confirm right quantity and quality of supplies.
  • Carry out supervision of procurement team
    and ensure that procurement management systems/Projects are functioning
    appropriately.
  • Offer technical support to management and
    procurement committee in monitoring the implementation of agreed
    procurement action plans
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:  
  • The ideal candidate for the M-KOPA Senior
    Procurement Officer job opportunity should hold a Bachelor’s degree (or
    its university equivalent) in a relevant discipline, e.g. Procurement,
    Logistics, Supply Chain, Management, Commerce or a related business course.
  • At least three to four years of relevant
    professional experience in the formulation and implementation of
    procurement-specific projects in a Social Enterprise
  • Applicable knowledge and understanding of
    acceptable procurement standards, regulations and guidelines
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation
    skills, along with personal tenacity and the ability to drive things
    through to conclusion in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Demonstrate high level of integrity, work
    ethics, and a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Good team player with high levels of
    flexibility.
  • Good problem solving and analytical
    skills.
  • Should be self-motivated & able to
    demonstrate a drive for results with a professional approach.
  • Proven report-writing skills, Good
    customer care and presentation skills.
