in East Africa. Empower a Child is registered in United States of America as a
501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization. When it was started in 2006, Empower a
Child focus was on the humanitarian situation in Uganda and Kenya, in
particular, re-building communities, community structures, and empowering the
youth. Empower a Child developed an integrated approach to development through
engagement in four key sectors: education (including child sponsorship), health
education, vocational training and entrepreneurship, character and spiritual
development.
Luwero District (approximately 1.5 hour drive north of Kampala, the Capital
City). This land is in the heart of a community that has struggled to re-build
from a guerilla war that took place over 30 years ago. Empower a Child, hopes
to work with the community to build a self-sustaining community development program
on this land. There have been marked developments so far. Since 2010, Empower a
Child has constructed a community church, medical clinic, established a
community school, started up an economic empowerment program that directly
reaches the women and has set up agricultural and animal husbandry projects to
diversify income avenues of the households. In 2017, Empower a Child is
re-locating to the Zirobwe to better assist the community development program
impact.
Child Resource Mobilization Officer will
identify possible partners who can provide technical, financial or other
support to Empower a Child work, prepare proposals for mobilizing such support,
and follow up the proposals to their logical conclusions. He/ She will also be
required to maintain liaison with donors.
The Resource Mobilization Officer will provide the field office with
technical support and training in grants management with a focus on
institutional strengthening and readiness for grants.
- In charge of building, maintaining and
strengthening partnerships to promote Empower a Child and to increase the
organization’s visibility. - Build and manage corporate partnerships,
as you maximizeengagement with employees at all levels. - Represent Empower a Child in different
partner’s events including workshops, seminars and where necessary prepare
presentations on Empower a Child work. - Develop standard partnership and corporate
contracts
- In charge of researching and submitting
funding proposals and applications to Grant Making Bodies, in consultation
with the Country Director and Finance Manager. - Manage the maintenance and regular update
of the Empower a Child Donor database both existing and Potentials to
inform future relationships in line with organisation objectives. - Build strong working relationships with
existing trust supporters, writing reports to meet deadlines and submitting
further applications for funding. - Manage and lead the identification of, and
approaches to trusts and foundations that have not previously supported
Empower a Child, building on an annual calendar of key prospects. - Identify and secure funding from overseas
foundations. - Develop core generic trust proposals for
each programme that requires funding. - Write tailored proposals, addressing
programme priorities or requirements. - Develop and maintain reporting and
application systems and coordinate information with field offices - Regularly monitor donor websites to
identify prospective funding opportunities
- In charge of implementing Empower a Child
Fundraising Strategy (Including Corporate, Trusts, Grants and Community). - Organizing local fundraising events to
promote Empower Child activities and increase funding base. - Actively contribute new ideas for
fundraising and identify suitable funding initiatives, calls for proposals
etc. - Produce detailed annual action plans on
specific areas of responsibility outlined above, identifying areas for
growth and development and outlining measurable objectives. - Objectively review the success and
achievements against agreed targets, identifying strengths, weaknesses and
areas for development. - Maintain organized hard and soft files of
all fundraising information. - Actively participate in the day to day
work of the organisation – such as reporting, attending team as required,
and taking a flexible approach to general administrative and support
tasks. - Participate in staff appraisals and
appropriate training for the role. - Initiate trainings on Resource
Mobilization including proposal writing.
- Provides oversight to the Finance unit and
manage the Finance Team - Supervise monthly financial closing
process - Cultivate and maintain an expertise on the
rules and regulations of various donors and provide guidance in the area
of donor compliance; - Maintain current knowledge of local
government requirements related to financial matters and ensure compliance
with tax regulations and other legal requirements. - Carry out regular checks of Empower a
Child accounting activities in all its field offices, including monthly
reviews of financial transactions to check for appropriate documentation, correct
account assignment and approvals; - Ensure that adequate internal controls are
in place, closely monitor all financial activities and keep the Country
Director advised of all situations which have the potential for a negative
impact on internal controls or financial performance; - Support annual audits
- Take appropriate action with departments
concerned to address audit findings and recommendations, follow through on
action plan commitments and share all through the CD to the key levels or
offices;
- Significantly contribute to the production
of the Annual Review and Newsletter, including writing copy, liaising with
printers and designers, distribution to country offices and donors. - Ensure the website fundraising and communications
information is up to date. - Collate case studies, photographs and
information from the field.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Empower a
Child Resource Mobilization Officer career opportunity should hold a BBA –
Marketing, SWSA, Social Sciences and further training in Fundraising and
Resource Mobilization, project planning management, Public Relations, and
Proposal Writing - A minimum of three years’ experience as
Resource Mobilization Officer in reputable NGOs - Broad working knowledge of external
relations, internal audit, grants management policy analysis and
relationship development involving donors and external partners. - Proven capacity to analyze and explain
innovative financing. - Working knowledge of financial mechanisms
for non-budget contributions from donor countries. - Knowledge of specific features of
corporate social responsibility. - Computer literacy skills especially in
writing and monitoring. - Ability to think creatively and in a
proactive manner. - Proven ability to communicate clearly and
effectively - The applicant must be a mature Christian
characterized by a strong Christian testimony, a heart for ministry, and
knowledge of the Scriptures. - The applicants must have a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. - Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ,
maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within
and outside of Empower a Child and faithfully upholds Empower a Child
ministry in prayer. - Willingness to regularly travel to programme
sites.
