About US:
Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) is one of the constituent
research institutions under the Uganda National Health Research Organization
(UNHRO). UVRI has a broad mission to carry out scientific investigations on
communicable diseases of public health importance and to advise government on
strategies for their control and prevention.
About EDCTP 2:
The Institute has received funding from the European Developing
Countries Clinical Trials Partnership 2 (EDCTP 2) to coordinate a capacity
building project from the European Commission. The aim of this Project is to
strengthen regional clinical trials research capacity in HIV, Malaria, TB and
Neglected Infectious Diseases (NID) through the establishment of a Network of
Excellence called the East African Consortium for Clinical Research-2 (EACCR2).
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
  • Manage the implementation of the network
    activities and ensure timelines are followed;
  • Coordinate and manage relations of
    stakeholders within and outside EACCR2 as delegated by the Overall Project
    Coordinator i.e the project PI;
  • Provide advisory and supervisory functions
    to EACCR2 project management by liaising with the project administrators,
    finance officer and other grant management staff;
  • Manage contracts for short term technical
    assignments of the project to ensure accurate documentation and legal
    compliance of all stakeholders, identifying any potential overruns on
    deadlines, and likely costs;
  • Supporting grant sourcing initiatives for
    EACCR2 and UVRI by looking for funding opportunities, participating in
    writing grant proposals, upon award review and implement grant agreement;
  • Coordinate HIV node activities with the
    support of the node management committee in areas of clinical research/
    trials, training, infrastructural upgrades of sister institutions,
    networking and grant sourcing;
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the
    Overall Project Coordinator.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate must hold an MBcHB and
    an advanced degree (Ph.D or MD, or MMED, or M.Sc) in epidemiology, public
    health, or other relevant medical or scientific field.
  • Previous exposure and experience in the
    conduct of medical and clinical research, together with skills to lead a
    health-related project.
